About this file

This is a contract amendment and associated change order documents for the ADOT Tucson North MVD Renovation project located at 7330 N. Shannon Rd in Tucson, Arizona. The primary parties involved include the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) as the owner, Shive-Hattery as the architect, SD Crane Builders Inc. as the general contractor, and Catalina Mechanical Contracting as a subcontractor. The documents cover multiple contract modifications for plumbing and underground utility work, including floor drain replacements, sewer line repairs, and waste line inspections.

The contract amendment increases the total contract sum by $25,732.03, bringing the new contract sum to $3,264,077.40. The change orders detail specific modifications, including replacing six floor drains for $8,445.00 and repairing cracked sewer lines for $10,123.00. The work involves excavation, concrete saw cutting, pipe replacements, and associated labor. The modifications require 15 additional calendar days for substantial completion, extending the project timeline to 11/17/2026. The changes were necessitated by field conditions discovered during underground plumbing inspections, including cracked drain lines and issues with existing infrastructure.

Information: Request:

This RFI is regarding ASI #1 and the new dimensions for the plumbing chase wall. ASI #1 calls for 8’4” between the East and West walls in the women’s restroom. This will require additional saw cuts, concrete demo and reworking the sink drain line underground along with the floor drains and reworking the plumbing in the drinking fountain wall to shift all plumbing to the east approx.. 6”. We currently have 8’ to the sink drain line at the concrete ( which would finish at approx. 7’10”). Please advise if you are wanting us to relocate all Underground plumbing in this area to meet the 8’4” clear space provided in ASI #1.

Please see ASI #1 attached below.

Shive-Hattery

The 8'-4 1/2" dimension indicated for the women's restrooms is the minimum needed to meet both ADA clearance requirements and toilet partition limitation. The contractor shall proceed with adjusting the underground plumbing lines as required to install fixtures per the dimensions provided in ASI #1.

Information: Request:

Per ASI #3 we see the architect has changed the size of the Exit Only sign but we don't see any updated locations. Regardless of the size of the sign the roller shades will cover the signs when they are down as it's indicated to be installed on the window next to the door. The color noted for the exit signs on the updated plans is white with black background. Will that be the color for all the signs? Please advise.

The letters we removed from the building are not in the best shape, the drawings do not include repainting the existing letters but we can add it to refresh the letters if needed for additional cost. Please advise.

We removed the sign in the attached photo when we removed the lettering from the building. Does the owner want to reinstall the sign when the remodel is complete or does it need to be disposed of? Please advise. See drawing and photo attached below.

Question 1:

Per SK-07 sheet of ASI #3, General Signage Note 2, states that exit signs will be centered on the exterior door. Per approved window covering submittal, window shades will not be installed on swinging doors. All signs shall have white text with black background.

Question 2:

Contractor shall replace any damaged building lettering in kind. All building lettering shall be painted P5.

Question 3:

It was confirmed with Andrew May that ADOT will provide a replacement sign. The contractor shall dispose of the existing sign.
