1.0 SCOPE OF WORK: TEMPORARY SHORING

This scope of work provides an overview and requirements for the installation of temporary shoring for the heat sealing machine replacement procedure.

The Contractor is to provide thirty eight (38) adjustable height columns and install at each location identified in Figure 1. These columns are to be removed by the contractor upon completion of this work. These columns will remain the property of the contractor or the contractor’s providing vendor. The government does not intend to purchase these components. Adjustable columns shall meet the following criteria:

a. The column height range varies from 140” to 148”. Temporary wood blocking may be utilized to create a tight fit condition (4” max). Contractor to field verify height range prior to procurement.

b. Minimum allowable load capacity of 5,000lbs.

c. Column diameter not to exceed 4 inches.

d. Each column shall contain a screw jack at one end so that the column can be adjusted to make positive, firm contact between the floor and the supported beam above.

e. Contain steel end plates at the top and bottom which include holes for fasteners.

The Contractor shall procure and install two (2) 4”x6” wooden beams at locations identified in Figure 1 per Figure 2 Detail A. These items are to be left in place and will become the property of the government. The beams shall meet the following criteria:

a. Each 4”x6”x9’-0” (nominal) wooden beam shall be of Southern Pine, No. 2 or better.

b. Each 4”x6” beam is to be connected to the existing 3”x8” joists prior to adjustable height column installation with a minimum of four (4) hurricane clips.

In addition to any applicable OEM instructions, each column shall be installed per the following requirements. Where conflicts occur, the requirements given below shall control.

a. Each column must be plumb.

b. The length of each column shall be adjusted at the time of installation so that it makes positive firm contact with the floor and the supported beam. It is not necessary to tighten the columns excessively beyond snug conditions. Tighten enough to make firm contact. Do not tighten to the point which causes crushing of wood or concrete around the column contact areas.

c. Fasteners shall be installed through each of the fastener holes (typically 4 holes) in the top and bottom plate in order to secure the column to the floor and the supported beams.

Submittal Requirements:

At least 14 days prior to starting work the Contractor shall supply a submittal to the

Government which provides technical data for the components that the Contractor intends to install. This includes shoring jacks, lumber, fasteners, or other components that will be installed as part of this work. This data shall include (as applicable): manufacturer’s name, model, capacity, material type and grade, basic size and dimensions.
