About this file
This file is a detailed specification document for asbestos abatement at the Cincinnati Veterans Affairs Medical Center as part of the Renovate MICU/SICU project. The specification provides comprehensive requirements for safely removing approximately 75 square feet of asbestos-containing tan duct mastic located in specific rooms and hallways on the facility's second floor. The document outlines rigorous protocols for asbestos removal, including establishing regulated work areas, implementing negative air pressure systems, using specialized personal protective equipment, following strict decontamination procedures, and ensuring proper disposal of asbestos-containing materials.
The specification mandates extensive safety and environmental controls, including creating sealed containment barriers, using HEPA-filtered negative air machines, requiring workers to wear full protective gear, implementing multi-stage decontamination facilities, and conducting detailed air monitoring and visual inspections throughout the abatement process. The contractor must follow federal OSHA and EPA regulations, obtain necessary permits, provide comprehensive worker training, maintain medical surveillance for workers, and submit detailed documentation before, during, and after the asbestos removal project. The work is part of a larger renovation of the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) and Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center.
