About this file
This document is a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP CHS-SEM-005) from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center's Office of Charleston Operations establishing procedures for armed officers and agents bringing agency-issued weapons onto FLETC/CHS facilities. The SOP was issued and revised on 01/20/2009.
The document outlines specific procedures for two FLETC locations: the Federal Complex facilities in North Charleston and the Charleston Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek. Key requirements include: weapon control cards must be issued by the Visitor Control Center upon Security Specialist approval; weapons must be cleared at designated stations; the Visitor Control Center on Bainbridge Avenue operates 24/7; and specific storage procedures must be followed, including separate storage of ammunition from weapons. The document details responsibilities of the Deputy Assistant Director for facility oversight and the Security Specialist for weapons control processes. Access to the armory in building 304 is restricted to authorized personnel, with operating hours of 6:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday through Friday excluding holidays. Lost weapon control cards must be immediately reported, and one-time visitors can use form FTC-SEM-15 for weapons registration.
