SECTION 06100
ROUGH CARPENTRY
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 SCOPE
A. The scope of this Section includes the following:
1. Framing with dimension lumber.
2. Framing with engineered wood products.
3. Wood nailers, and blocking.
4. Sheathing.
1.02 DEFINITIONS
A. Rough carpentry includes carpentry work not specified as part of other Sections and generally not exposed, unless otherwise specified.
1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. Include lumber certification as part of Section 13122 submittals
1.04 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Delivery and Storage: Keep materials under cover and dry. Protect against exposure to weather and contact with damp or wet surfaces. Stack lumber as well as plywood and other panels; provide for air circulation within and around stacks and under temporary coverings including polyethylene and similar materials.
1. For lumber and plywood pressure treated with waterborne chemicals, place spacers between each bundle to provide air circulation.
1.05 QUALITY CONTROL
A. Codes and Standards
1. Uniform Building Code Chapter 25, 1997 Edition.

B. Quality of products and installation shall conform to codes and standards referenced above, as applicable.
C. Moisture Content: Air-dry untreated lumber, with sticking both horizontally and vertically, for not less than 30 days prior to installation. Kiln-dry treated lumber to 19 percent moisture content.
D. Grade Stamps: All lumber and plywood shall be grade-stamped.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 LUMBER, GENERAL
A. Lumber Standards: Furnish lumber manufactured to comply with PS 20 "American
Softwood Lumber Standard" and with applicable grading rules of inspection agencies certified by American Lumber Standards Committee's (ALSC) Board of Review.
B. Inspection Agencies: Inspection agencies and the abbreviations used to reference them with lumber grades and species include the following:
1. RIS - Redwood Inspection Service.
2. WCLIB - West Coast Lumber Inspection Bureau.
3. WWPA - Western Wood Products Association.
C. Grade Stamps: Provide lumber with each piece factory-marked with grade stamp of inspection agency evidencing compliance with grading rule requirements and identifying grading agency, grade, species, moisture content at time of surfacing, and mill.
D. Nominal sizes are indicated, except as shown by detail dimensions. Provide actual sizes as required by PS 20, for moisture content specified for each use.
1. Provide dressed lumber, S4S, unless otherwise indicated.
2. Provide seasoned lumber with 19 percent maximum moisture content at time of dressing and shipment for sizes 2 inches or less in nominal thickness, unless otherwise indicated.

2.02 DIMENSION LUMBER
A. All dimension lumber shall be graded as indicated on the drawings.
B. Sill plates in contact with concrete shall be pressure treated Douglas fir - No. 1 for structural walls and construction grade for non-structural walls. Or at non-structural walls, foundation grade redwood may be substituted.
2.03 MISCELLANEOUS LUMBER
A. General: Provide lumber for support or attachment of other construction including cant strips, bucks, nailers, blocking, furring, grounds, stripping, and similar members.
B. Fabricate miscellaneous lumber from dimension lumber of sizes indicated and into shapes shown.
C. Moisture content: 19 percent maximum for lumber items not specified to receive wood preservative treatment.
D. Grade: "Standard" grade light-framing-size lumber of any species or board-size lumber as required. "No. 3 Common" or "Standard" grade boards per WCLIB or WWPA rules or "No. 2 Boards" per SPIB rules.
2.04 CONSTRUCTION PANELS, (PLYWOOD), GENERAL
A. Construction Panel Standards: Comply with PS 1 "U.S. Product Standard for
Construction and Industrial Plywood" for plywood construction panels and, for products not manufactured under PS 1 provisions, with APA PRP-108.
B. Trademark: Furnish construction panels that are each factory-marked with APA trademark evidencing compliance with grade requirements.
C. Radiant Barriers: Roof sheathing and panels covering gable end walls in attics shall contain a radiant barrier applied to the inside face. The emissivity of the radiant barrier shall not exceed 0.05 according to ASTM text method C-1371-97. The product and installation shall meet all the requirements for radiant barriers contained in the Building Energy Efficiency Standards, California Title 24.
2.05 CONCEALED PERFORMANCE-RATED CONSTRUCTION PANELS
A. General: Where construction panels are indicated for the following concealed types of applications, provide APA Performance-Rated Panels complying with requirements designated under each application for grade designation, span rating, exposure durability classification, edge detail (where applicable), and thickness.

B. Trademarks: Factory-mark each construction panel with APA trademark evidencing compliance with grade requirements.
C. Structural Plywood for roof, wall and floor sheathing shall be as indicated on the drawings. Comply with paragraph 2.04(C) above.
2.06 CONSTRUCTION PANELS FOR BACKING
A. Plywood Backing Panels: For mounting electrical or telephone equipment, provide fire-retardant-treated plywood panels with grade designation, APA C-D PLUGGED EXPOSURE 1, in thickness indicated, or, if not otherwise indicated, not less than 15/32 inch.
2.07 AIR INFILTRATION BARRIER
A. Tyvek Housewrap or approved equal.
2.08 FASTENERS
A. General: Provide fasteners of size and type indicated that comply with requirements specified in this article for material and manufacturer.
1. Where rough carpentry is exposed to weather, in ground contact, or in area of high relative humidity, provide fasteners with a hot-dip zinc coating per ASTM A 153 or of AISI Type 304 stainless steel.
B. Nails, Wire, Brads, and Staples: FS FF-N-105.
C. Power Driven Fasteners: National Evaluation Report NER-272.
D. Wood Screws: ANSI B18.6.1.
E. Lag Bolts: ANSI B18.2.1.
F. Bolts: Steel bolts complying with ASTM A 307, Grade A, with ASTM A 563 hex nuts and where indicated, flat washers.
2.09 METAL FRAMING ANCHORS
A. General: Provide metal framing anchors of type, size, metal, and finish indicated that comply with requirements specified including the following:
1. Current Evaluation/Research Reports: Provide products for which model code evaluation/research reports exist that are acceptable to authorities having
06100-5 Rough Carpentry jurisdiction and that evidence compliance of metal framing anchors for application indicated with the building code in effect for this Project.
2. Allowable Design Loads: Provide products for which manufacturer publishes allowable design loads that are determined from empirical data or by rational engineering analysis and that are demonstrated by comprehensive testing performed by a qualified independent testing laboratory.
B. Galvanized Steel Sheet: Steel sheet zinc-coated by hot-dip process on continuous lines prior to fabrication to comply with ASTM A 525 for Coating Designation G60 and with ASTM A 446, Grade A (structural quality); ASTM A 526 (commercial quality); or ASTM A 527 (lock-forming quality); as standard with manufacturer for type of anchor indicated.
1. Use galvanized steel framing anchors for rough carpentry exposed to weather, in ground contact, or in area of high relative humidity, and where indicated.
2.10 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS
A. Water Repellent Preservative: NWWDA-tested and -accepted formulation containing
3-iodo-2-propynyl butyl carbonate (IPBC) as its active ingredient.
2.11 PRESERVATIVE WOOD TREATMENT BY PRESSURE PROCESS
A. General: Where lumber or plywood is indicated as preservative-treated wood or is specified herein to be treated, comply with applicable requirements of AWPA Standards C2 (Lumber) and C9 (Plywood). Mark each treated item with the AWPB Quality Mark Requirements.
B. Pressure-treat above-ground items with water-borne preservatives to a minimum retention of 0.25 pcf. For interior uses, after treatment, kiln-dry lumber and plywood to a maximum moisture content, respectively, of 19 percent and 15 percent. Treat indicated items and the following:
1. Wood cants, nailers, curbs, equipment support bases, blocking, stripping, and similar members in connection with roofing, flashing, vapor barriers, and waterproofing.
2. Wood sills, sleepers, blocking, furring, stripping, and similar concealed members in contact with masonry or concrete.
C. Complete fabrication of treated items prior to treatment, where possible. If cut after treatment, coat cut surfaces to comply with AWPA M4. Inspect each piece of lumber or plywood after drying and discard damaged or defective pieces.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION AND WORKMANSHIP, GENERAL
A. Members shall be accurately cut to required dimensions and shall be firmly secured with metal connectors true to the lines, levels, and dimensions indicated, all in accordance with the UBC.
B. Where there is a significant variation in moisture content between individual members, shrinkage shall be allowed for and final connections shall not be made until moisture content of adjacent members has been stabilized. Allow no construction over framing members until final connections and/or adjustments have been made to achieve maximum strength at connections and minimum future movement from shrinkage or expansion.
C. Discard units of material with defects that impair quality of rough carpentry construction and that are too small to use in fabricating rough carpentry with minimum joints or optimum joint arrangement.
D. Fit rough carpentry to other construction; scribe and cope as required for accurate fit.
Correlate location of furring, nailers, blocking, grounds, and similar supports to allow attachment of other construction.
E. Securely attach rough carpentry work to substrate by anchoring and fastening as indicated.
F. Bore bolt holes true to line and of 1/16 inch greater diameter than bolts. Drive bolts into place with a tight fit and provide with plates or washers as indicated on the Drawings.
Turn up and make tight all nuts, bolts, and lag screws at time of installation and again just before enclosed with other fixed materials, or at the completion of the work, to ensure that shrinkage has been overcome and the fastenings are tight.
G. No lubricant of any kind shall be used on any fastener depending on friction for holding.
H. Screws shall not be driven by hammering.
I. Countersink nail heads on exposed carpentry work and fill holes.
J. Use common wire nails, unless otherwise indicated. Use finishing nails for finish work.
Select fasteners of size that will not penetrate members where opposite side will be exposed to view or will receive finish materials. Make tight connections between members. Install fasteners without splitting of wood; predrill as required.
K. Members (other than all heart Redwood) which are in contact with concrete exposed to weather, shall be treated a distance of 2'-0" along their length from point of contact with
06100-7 Rough Carpentry two flowing coats of 5% Pentachlorophenol (or copper napthenate solution, if not to be stained).
L. Coordinate installation of open web trusses, glue laminated beams, plate connected wood trusses.
M. Tolerances:
1. Framing Members: 1/4 inch maximum from true position.
2. Surface Flatness of Floor: 1/4 inch in 10 feet maximum.
3.02 WOOD GROUNDS, NAILERS, BLOCKING, AND SLEEPERS
A. Provide and install wood grounds, nailers, blocking, and sleepers where shown and where required for screening or attachment of other work. Form to shapes as shown and cut as required for true line and level of work to be attached. Coordinate location with other work involved.
B. Attach to substrates as required to support applied loading. Countersink bolts and nuts flush with surfaces, unless otherwise indicated. Where possible, anchor to formwork before concrete placement.
3.03 WOOD FRAMING, GENERAL
A. Framing Standard: Comply with National Forest Products Association (N.F.P.A.)
"Manual for House Framing," unless otherwise indicated.
B. Install framing members of size and spacing indicated. Coordinate with other framing and to other trades prior to actual construction.
C. Anchor and nail as shown, and to comply with the following:
1. National Evaluation Report No. NER-272 for pneumatic or mechanical driven staples, P-Nails, and allied fasteners.
2. Published requirements of manufacturer of metal framing anchors.
3. "Recommended Nailing Schedule" of referenced framing standard and with
N.F.P.A. "National Design Specifications for Wood Construction."
D. Do not splice structural members between supports.
E. Provide solid blocking at all joist or truss supports (2x framing depth), unless otherwise noted. Install shims where indicated or where required to set work in proper alignment.

F. Install blocking where indicated on the Drawings, where required on gypsum board edges, at plywood panel joints where not over a framing member, and wherever required for support of items specified in other sections.
G. Cutting of wood girders, beams, or joists for electrical and mechanical lines shall be limited to cuts and bored holes not deeper than one-fifth of the beam depth from the top and located not further from the support than three times the beam depth and not less than the beam depth. Cuts in excess of this or single bored holes with diameter of more than 1 1/2 inch are not permitted without special provisions. Location of cuts or holes in framing shall receive review by the Contracting Officer prior to approval of holes.
H. Fire stop concealed spaces of wood framed walls and partitions at each floor level and at the ceiling line of the top story. Where fire stops are not automatically provided by the framing system used, use closely fitted wood blocks of nominal 2-inch-thick lumber of the same width as framing members.
3.04 STUD FRAMING
A. Cut studs and posts with square ends, unless otherwise shown, and erect plumb.
B. Studs in walls shall be 2X4, 2X6, or 3X6 as indicated on Drawings.
C. Double studs on each side of all openings, unless noted otherwise.
D. Construct corners and intersections with not less than 3 studs. Install miscellaneous blocking and framing as shown and as required for support of facing materials, fixtures, specialty items, and trim.
E. Openings in stud walls and partitions shall be framed with headers across the top with a minimum size of 6 inches deep x stud width resting on cripple studs, unless otherwise noted.
F. Top plates shall be as indicated, set one at a time; sill plates single, secured as indicated on drawings. Corners where stud wall or partitions meet shall be framed solid. Double top plates shall be lapped at corners. Where openings are cut through plates, install 16-gauge steel strap ties 1-1/4 inches wide at single plate, and 2-5/16 inches wide at double plate extending minimum 9 inches past each cut.
G. Walls and partitions containing plumbing, heating, or other pipes shall be framed to give proper clearances for piping without notching or hacking of studs.
H. Holes through studs exceeding 1/3 the width of the stud are not permitted without review by the Contracting Officer.

3.08 INSTALLATION OF CONSTRUCTION PANELS (PLYWOOD)
A. General: Comply with applicable recommendations contained in Form No. E30, "APA
Design/Construction Guide - Residential & Commercial”, for types of construction panels and applications indicated.
B. Layout and Fastening: Plywood shall be nailed to framing as indicated on the drawings.
Sheathing on walls, roofs, and floors shall be supported on framing or blocking on all four edges of each sheet. Joint layout shall be staggered. Butt panel ends and edges to a close, but not tight fit (allow 1/16-inch space). All panels as indicated on the drawings.
C. Wall sheathing shall be installed with face grain perpendicular to the studs. No piece shall be less than 2 feet by 4 feet.
D. Roof and floor sheathing shall be installed with face grain perpendicular to the framing members. No piece shall be smaller than 2 feet by 4 feet.
3.09 AIR INFILTRATION BARRIER
A. Cover sheathing with air infiltration barrier as follows:
1. Tyvek Housewrap or approved equal.
PART 4 – MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
Payment for this item shall be included in the Modular Building pay item.

08111-1 Standard Steel Doors and Frames
SECTION 08111
STANDARD STEEL DOORS AND FRAMES
1.01 SCOPE
A. This Section includes the following products manufactured in accordance with SDI
Recommended Standards:
1. Doors: Seamless, hollow or composite construction standard steel doors for exterior locations.
2. Frames: Pressed steel frames for doors, transoms, sidelights, mullions, interior glazed panels, and other interior and exterior openings of following type:
a. One piece welded type
3. Assemblies: Provide standard steel door and frame assemblies as required for the following:
a. Labeled and fire rated.
b. Thermal rated (insulated).
4. Provide factory primed doors and frames to be field painted.
B. Painting primed doors and frames is specified in Section 13122.
C. Door hardware is specified in Section 08710.
D. Glass and Glazing are specified in Section 08800.
1.02 SUBMITTALS
A. General: Submit the following in accordance with Conditions of Contract and Division 1
Specification Sections.
B. Product data for each type of door and frame specified, including details of construction, materials, dimensions, hardware preparation, core, label compliance, profiles, and finishes.
C. Shop drawings showing fabrication and installation of standard steel doors and frames.
Include details of each frame type, elevations of door design types, conditions at openings, details of construction, location and installation requirements of door and frame hardware and reinforcements, and details of joints and connections. Show anchorage and accessory items.

1. Provide schedule of doors and frames using same reference numbers for details and openings as those on contract drawings.
2. Indicate coordinate of glazing frames and stops with glass and glazing requirements.
D. Label Construction Certification: For door assemblies required to be fire rated and exceeding limitations of labeled assemblies; submit manufacturer's certification that each door and frame assembly has been constructed to conform to design materials and construction equivalent to requirements for labeled construction.
1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Provide doors and frames complying with Steel Door Institute "Recommended
Specifications Standard Steel Doors and Frames" ANSI/SDI-100 and as herein specified.
B. Fire-Rated Door Assemblies: Units that comply with NFPA 80, are identical to door and frame assemblies whose fire resistance characteristics have been determined per ASTM E 152 and which are labeled and listed by UL, Factory Mutual, Warnock Hersey, or other testing and inspecting organization acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction.
1.04 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Deliver doors and frames cardboard-wrapped or crated to provide protection during transit and job storage. Provide additional protection to prevent damage to finish of factory-finished doors and frames.
B. Inspect doors and frames upon delivery for damage. Minor damages may be repaired provided refinished items are equal in all respects to new work and acceptable to Contracting Officer; otherwise, remove and replace damaged items as directed.
C. Store doors and frames at building site under cover. Place units on minimum 4-inches high wood blocking. Avoid use of non-vented plastic or canvas shelters which could create humidity chamber. If cardboard wrapper on door becomes wet, remove carton immediately. Provide 1/4-inches spaces between stacked doors to promote air circulation.
2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS
A. Available Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, manufacturers offering standard steel doors and frames which may be incorporated in the work include;
but are not limited to, the following:

a. Ceco Corp.
b. Fenestra Corp.
c. Steelcraft Manufacturing Co., or approved equal.
2.02 MATERIALS
A. Hot-Rolled Steel Sheets and Strip: Commercial quality carbon steel, pickled and oiled, complying with ASTM A 569 and ASTM A 568.
B. Cold-Rolled Steel Sheets: Commercial quality carbon steel, complying with ASTM A
366 and ASTM A 568.
C. Galvanized Steel Sheets: Zinc-coated carbon steel sheets of commercial quality, complying with ASTM A 526, or drawing quality, ASTM A 642, hot dipped galvanized in accordance with ASTM A 525, with A60 or G60 coating designation, mill phosphatized.
D. Supports and Anchors: Fabricate of not less than 18-gage sheet steel; galvanized where used with galvanized frames.
E. Inserts, Bolts, and Fasteners: Manufacturer's standard units. Where items are to be built into exterior walls, hot-dip galvanize in compliance with ASTM A 153, Class C or D as applicable.
F. Shop Applied Paint: Apply after fabrication.
1. Primer: Rust-inhibitive enamel or paint, either air-drying or baking, suitable as a base for specified finish paints complying with ANSI A224.1, "Test Procedure and Acceptance Criteria for Prime Painted Steel Surfaces for Steel Doors and Frames."
2.03 DOORS
A. Provide metal doors of SDI grades and models specified below or as indicated on drawings or schedules:
1. Exterior Doors: ANSI/SDI-100, Grade III, extra heavy-duty, Model 2 + 2A, minimum 16-gage galvanized steel faces.
B. Door Louvers: Provide sightproof stationary louvers for interior doors where indicated, constructed of inverted V-shaped or Y-shaped blades formed of 24-gage cold-rolled steel set into minimum 20-gage steel frame.

2.04 FRAMES
A. Provide metal frames for doors, transoms, sidelights, borrowed lights, and other openings, of types and styles as specified herein or shown on drawings and schedules.
Conceal fastenings, unless otherwise indicated. Fabricate one piece welded interior frames of minimum 18-gage cold-rolled steel and exterior frames with 16 gauge galvanized steel.
B. Door Silencers: Except on weatherstripped frames, drill stops to receive 3 silencers on strike jambs of single-door frames and 2 silencers on heads of double-door frames.
2.05 FABRICATION
A. Fabricate steel door and frame units to be rigid, neat in appearance and free from defects, warp or buckle. Wherever practicable, fit and assemble units in manufacturer's plant. Clearly identify work that cannot be permanently factory-assembled before shipment, to assure proper assembly at project site. Comply with ANSI/SDI-100 requirements.
1. Internal Construction: Manufacturer's standard honeycomb, polyurethane, polystyrene, unitized steel grid, vertical steel stiffeners, or rigid mineral fiber core with internal sound deadener on inside of face sheets where appropriate in accordance with SDI standards.
2. Clearances: Not more than 1/8 inch at jambs and heads except between non-fire-rated pairs of doors not more than 1/4 inch. Not more than 3/4 inch at bottom.
B. Fabricate exposed faces of doors and panels, including stiles and rails of nonflush units, from only cold-rolled steel.
C. Tolerances: Comply with SDI 117 "Manufacturing Tolerances Standard Steel Doors and
Frames."
D. Fabricate frames, concealed stiffeners, reinforcement, edge channels, louvers and moldings from either cold-rolled or hot-rolled steel.
E. Fabricate exterior doors, panels, and frames from galvanized sheet steel in accordance with SDI-112. Close top and bottom edges of exterior doors as integral part of door construction or by addition of minimum 16-gage inverted steel channels.
F. Exposed Fasteners: Unless otherwise indicated, provide countersunk flat or oval heads for exposed screws and bolts.

G. Thermal-Rated (Insulating) Assemblies: At exterior locations and elsewhere as shown or scheduled, provide doors fabricated as thermal insulating door and frame assemblies and tested in accordance with ASTM C 236 or ASTM C 976 on fully operable door assemblies.
1. Unless otherwise indicated, provide thermal-rated assemblies with U factor of
0.41 Btu/(hr x sq ft x deg F.) or better.
H. Hardware Preparation: Prepare doors and frames to receive mortised and concealed hardware in accordance with final Door Hardware Schedule and templates provided by hardware supplier. Comply with applicable requirements of ANSI A115 Series Specifications for door and frame preparation for hardware.
I. Reinforce doors and frames to receive surface-applied hardware. Drilling and tapping for surface-applied hardware may be done at project site.
J. Locate hardware as indicated on final shop drawings or, if not indicated, in accordance with "Recommended Locations for Builder's Hardware on Standard Steel Doors and Frames," published by Door and Hardware Institute.
K. Shop Painting: Clean, treat, and paint exposed surfaces of steel door and frame units, including galvanized surfaces.
1. Clean steel surfaces of mill scale, rust, oil, grease, dirt, and other foreign materials before application of paint.
2. Apply shop coat of prime paint of even consistency to provide a uniformly finished surface ready to receive finish paint.
L. Glazing Stops: Minimum 20 gage steel or .040-inch-thick aluminum.
1. Provide non-removable stops on outside of exterior doors and on secure side of interior doors for glass, louvers, and other panels in doors.
2. Provide screw applied removable glazing beads on inside of glass, louvers, and other panels in doors.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION
A. General: Install standard steel doors, frames, and accessories in accordance with final shop drawings, manufacturer's data, and as herein specified.

B. Placing Frames: Comply with provisions of SDI-105 "Recommended Erection Instructions For Steel Frames," unless otherwise indicated.
1. Set frames accurately in position, plumbed, aligned, and braced securely until permanent anchors are set. After wall construction is completed, remove temporary braces and spreaders leaving surfaces smooth and undamaged.
2. Install Fire-rated frames in accordance with NFPA Standard No. 80.
3. In all walls and partitions, install one piece welded frames suitable for specified exterior and interior finishes.
C. Door Installation: Fit hollow metal doors accurately in frames, within clearances specified in ANSI/SDI-100.
1. Install fire-rated doors in accordance with NFPA Standard No. 80.
3.02 ADJUST AND CLEAN
A. Prime Coat Touch-up: Immediately after erection, sand smooth any rusted or damaged areas of prime coat and apply touch-up of compatible air-drying primer.
B. Protection Removal: Immediately prior to final inspection, remove protective plastic wrappings from prefinished doors.
C. Final Adjustments: Check and readjust operating hardware items, leaving steel doors and frames undamaged and in complete and proper operating condition.

1.02 SUMMARY
A. This Section includes items known commercially as finish or door hardware that are required for swing, sliding, and folding doors, except special types of unique hardware specified in the same sections as the doors and door frames on which they are installed.
B. This Section includes the following:

3. Bolts.
4. Closers.
5. Overhead holders.
6. Miscellaneous door control devices.

E. Selection and Ordering: Furnish door hardware as selected by Contracting Officer and in such quantities as provided for under Division 1 Section "Allowances" and other general provisions of the Contract.
F. Door hardware supplier's responsibilities shall be as follows:
1. Submittals: Submit through Contractor required product data, final hardware schedule, separate keying schedule, and samples as specified in this Section, unless otherwise indicated.
2. Construction Schedule: Inform Contractor promptly of estimated times and dates that will be required to process submittals, to furnish templates, to deliver hardware, and to perform other work associated with furnishing door hardware for purposes of including this data in construction schedule. Comply with this schedule.
3. Coordination and Templates: Assist Contractor as required to coordinate hardware with other work in respect to both fabrication and installation. Furnish Contractor with templates and deliver hardware to proper locations.
4. Product Handling: Package, identify, deliver, and inventory door hardware specified in this Section.
5. Discrepancies: Based on requirements indicated in Contract Documents in effect at time of door hardware selection, furnish types, finishes, and quantities of door hardware, including fasteners, and Government's maintenance tools required to comply with specified requirements and as needed to install and maintain hardware. Furnish or replace any items of door hardware resulting from shortages and incorrect items at no cost to the Government or Contractor. Obtain signed receipts from Contractor for all delivered materials.
G. Contractor's responsibilities shall be as follows:
1. Submittals: Coordinate and process submittals for door hardware in same manner as submittals for other work.
2. Construction Schedule: Cooperate with door hardware supplier in establishing scheduled dates for submittals and delivery of templates and door hardware.
Incorporate in construction schedule the times and dates related to furnishing hardware by door hardware supplier.
3. Coordination: Coordinate door hardware with other Work. Furnish hardware supplier or manufacturer with shop drawings of other work where required or requested. Verify completeness and suitability of hardware with supplier.
4. Product Handling: Provide secure lock-up for hardware delivered to the site.
Inventory hardware jointly with representative of hardware supplier and issue signed receipts for all delivered materials.
5. Installation Information: The general types and approximate quantities of hardware required for this Project are indicated at the end of this Section in order to establish Contractor's costs for installation and other work not included in allowance.

1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. General: Submit the following in accordance with Conditions of Contract and Division 1
Specification sections.
B. Product data including manufacturers' technical product data for each item of door hardware, installation instructions, maintenance of operating parts and finish, and other information necessary to show compliance with requirements.
C. Final hardware schedule coordinated with doors, frames, and related work to ensure proper size, thickness, hand, function, and finish of door hardware.
1. Final Hardware Schedule Content: Based on hardware indicated, organize schedule into "hardware sets" indicating complete designations of every item required for each door or opening. Include the following information:
a. Type, style, function, size, and finish of each hardware item.
b. Name and manufacturer of each item.
c. Fastenings and other pertinent information.
d. Location of each hardware set cross referenced to indications on Drawings both on floor plans and in door and frame schedule.
e. Explanation of all abbreviations, symbols, and codes contained in schedule.
f. Mounting locations for hardware.
g. Door and frame sizes and materials.
h. Keying information.
2. Submittal Sequence: Submit final schedule at earliest possible date particularly where acceptance of hardware schedule must precede fabrication of other work that is critical in the Project construction schedule. Include with schedule the product data, samples, shop drawings of other work affected by door hardware, and other information essential to the coordinated review of schedule.
3. Keying Schedule: Submit separate detailed schedule indicating clearly how the Government's final instructions on keying of locks has been fulfilled.
D. Templates for doors, frames, and other work specified to be factory prepared for the installation of door hardware. Check shop drawings of other work to confirm that adequate provisions are made for locating and installing door hardware to comply with indicated requirements.

1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Single Source Responsibility: Obtain each type of hardware (latch and lock sets, hinges, closers, etc.) from a single manufacturer.
B. Supplier Qualifications: A recognized architectural door hardware supplier, with warehousing facilities in the Project's vicinity, that has a record of successful in-service performance for supplying door hardware similar in quantity, type, and quality to that indicated for this Project and that employs an experienced architectural hardware consultant (AHC) who is available to Contracting Officer and Contractor, at reasonable times during the course of the Work, for consultation.
1. Require supplier to meet with Contracting Officer to finalize keying requirements and to obtain final instructions in writing.
C. Fire-Rated Openings: Provide door hardware for fire-rated openings that complies with
NFPA Standard No. 80 and requirements of authorities having jurisdiction. Provide only items of door hardware that are listed and are identical to products tested by UL, Warnock Hersey, FM, or other testing and inspecting organization acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction for use on types and sizes of doors indicated in compliance with requirements of fire-rated door and door frame labels.
1.05 PRODUCT HANDLING
A. Tag each item or package separately with identification related to final hardware schedule, and include basic installation instructions with each item or package.
B. Packaging of door hardware is responsibility of supplier. As material is received by hardware supplier from various manufacturers, sort and repackage in containers clearly marked with appropriate hardware set number to match set numbers of approved hardware schedule. Two or more identical sets may be packed in same container.
C. Inventory door hardware jointly with representatives of hardware supplier and hardware installer until each is satisfied that count is correct.
D. Deliver individually packaged door hardware items promptly to place of installation
(shop or Project site).
E. Provide secure lock-up for door hardware delivered to the Project, but not yet installed.
Control handling and installation of hardware items that are not immediately replaceable so that completion of the Work will not be delayed by hardware losses both before and after installation.
1.06 MAINTENANCE
A. Maintenance Tools and Instructions: Furnish a complete set of specialized tools and maintenance instructions as needed for Government's continued adjustment, maintenance, and removal and replacement of door hardware.

2.02 SCHEDULED HARDWARE
A. Requirements for design, grade, function, finish, size, and other distinctive qualities of each type of finish hardware are indicated in the "Hardware Schedule" at the end of this Section. Products are identified by using hardware designation numbers of the following:
1. Manufacturer's Product Designations: The product designation and name of one manufacturer are listed for each hardware type required for the purpose of establishing minimum requirements. Provide either the product designated or, where more than one manufacturer is specified under the Article "Manufacturers" in Part 2 for each hardware type, the comparable product of one of the other manufacturers that complies with requirements.

2.03 MATERIALS AND FABRICATION
A. Manufacturer's Name Plate: Do not use manufacturers' products that have manufacturer's name or trade name displayed in a visible location (omit removable nameplates) except in conjunction with required fire-rated labels and as otherwise acceptable to Contracting Officer.
1. Manufacturer's identification will be permitted on rim of lock cylinders only.
B. Base Metals: Produce hardware units of basic metal and forming method indicated, using manufacturer's standard metal alloy, composition, temper, and hardness, but in no case of lesser (commercially recognized) quality than specified for applicable hardware units by applicable ANSI/BHMA A156 series standards for each type of hardware item and with ANSI/BHMA A156.18 for finish designations indicated. Do not furnish "optional" materials or forming methods for those indicated, except as otherwise specified.

C. Fasteners: Provide hardware manufactured to conform to published templates, generally prepared for machine screw installation. Do not provide hardware that has been prepared for self-tapping sheet metal screws, except as specifically indicated.
D. Furnish screws for installation with each hardware item. Provide Phillips flat-head screws except as otherwise indicated. Finish exposed (exposed under any condition) screws to match hardware finish or, if exposed in surfaces of other work, to match finish of this other work as closely as possible including "prepared for paint" surfaces to receive painted finish.
E. Provide concealed fasteners for hardware units that are exposed when door is closed except to the extent no standard units of type specified are available with concealed fasteners. Do not use thru-bolts for installation where bolt head or nut on opposite face is exposed in other work unless their use is the only means of reinforcing the work adequately to fasten the hardware securely. Where thru-bolts are used as a means of reinforcing the work, provide sleeves for each thru-bolt or use sex screw fasteners.
2.04 HINGES, BUTTS, AND PIVOTS
A. Templates: Provide only template-produced units.
B. Screws: Provide Phillips flat-head screws complying with the following requirements:
1. For metal doors and frames install machine screws into drilled and tapped holes.
2. For fire-rated wood doors install #12 x 1-1/4-inch, threaded-to-the-head steel wood screws.
3. Finish screw heads to match surface of hinges or pivots.
C. Hinge Pins: Except as otherwise indicated, provide hinge pins as follows:
1. Out-Swing Exterior Doors: Non-removable pins.
2. Out-Swing Corridor Doors with Locks: Nonremovable pins.
3. Interior Doors: Nonrising pins.
4. Tips: Flat button and matching plug, finished to match leaves, except where hospital tip (HT) indicated.
D. Number of Hinges: Provide number of hinges indicated but not less than 3 hinges per door leaf for doors 90 inches or less in height and one additional hinge for each 30 inches of additional height.
1. Fire-Rated Doors: Not less than 3 hinges per door leaf for doors 86 inches or less in height with same rule for additional hinges.

2.05 LOCK CYLINDERS AND KEYING
A. Review the keying system with the Contracting Officer and provide the type required.
B. Equip locks with manufacturer's special 6-pin tumbler cylinder with construction masterkey feature that permits voiding of construction keys without cylinder removal.
C. Metals: Construct lock cylinder parts from brass or bronze, stainless steel, or nickel silver.
D. Comply with Contracting Officer's instructions for masterkeying and, except as otherwise indicated, provide individual change key for each lock that is not designated to be keyed alike with a group of related locks.
1. Permanently inscribe each key with number of lock that identifies cylinder manufacturer's key symbol, and notation, G. Key Material: Provide keys of nickel silver only.
E. Key Quantity: Furnish 3 change keys for each lock, 5 master keys for each master system.

2.06 LOCKS, LATCHES, AND BOLTS
A. Strikes: Provide manufacturer's standard wrought box strike for each latch or lock bolt, with curved lip extended to protect frame, finished to match hardware set, unless

2.07 CLOSERS AND DOOR CONTROL DEVICES
A. Size of Units: Except as otherwise specifically indicated, comply with the manufacturer's recommendations for size of door control unit depending on size of door, exposure to weather, and anticipated frequency of use.
1. Where parallel arms are indicated for closers, provide closer unit one size larger than recommended for use with standard arms.
B. Access-Free Manual Closers: Where manual closers are indicated provide adjustable units complying with ANSI A117.1 provisions for door opening force and delayed action closing.
C. Provide grey resilient parts for exposed bumpers.
2.08 DOOR TRIM UNITS
A. Fasteners: Provide manufacturer's standard exposed fasteners for door trim units consisting of either machine screws or self-tapping screws.
B. Fabricate edge trim of stainless steel to fit door thickness in standard lengths or to match height of protection plates.
C. Fabricate protection plates not more than 1-1/2 inches less than door width on hinge side and not more than 1/2 inch less than door width on pull side by height indicated.
