Phase III Sample Project Description

We are soliciting sample bids for data recovery of the Sample Site depicted on the attached map: The Sample Site is located on the Houston/Rolla unit of the Mark Twain National Forest (Forest) approximately 30 miles southwest of Rolla, Missouri.

For the purposes of this sample project, assume the Sample Site is an archaic period site previously determined eligible to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The research design will entail complete data recovery in an area measuring 50 square meters and containing at least three known intact subsurface features identified during previous Phase II testing. Artifact density is anticipated to be moderate. Artifacts are anticipated to be distributed throughout the stratigraphic sequence up to one meter below surface.

The Contractor shall conduct archival research, produce a research design, conduct fieldwork including excavation, analyze the results of the investigation, and prepare a Final Report documenting this information. The objective of this project shall be to conduct archaeological excavation at the site in order to recover data that will be lost during an upcoming developed recreation area reconstruction project. This Phase III data recovery project will mitigate adverse effects to the Sample Site and satisfy stipulation I described in a Memorandum of Agreement Between the USDA-Forest Service, Mark Twain National Forest, and the Missouri State Historic Preservation Officer Regarding the Proposed Sample Developed Recreation Area Fiscal Year 2014 Reconstruction Project.
