Phase II Sample Project Description
We are soliciting sample bids for evaluation of the Sample Site depicted on the attached map: The Sample Site is located on the Houston/Rolla unit of the Mark Twain National Forest (Forest) approximately 30 miles southwest of Rolla, Missouri.
For the purposes of this sample project, assume the Sample Site is a prehistoric site dating to the archaic period and the research design will entail gridded shovel testing to identify intact subsurface features and two 1 x 2 meter test units. The Sample Site measures a total of 6718 square meters (1.7 acres). Cultural material may be identified on the surface and throughout the stratigraphic sequence up to one meter below surface. Artifact density is anticipated to be moderate.
The Contractor shall conduct archival research, produce a research design, conduct fieldwork including limited test excavations (described above), analyze the results of the investigation, and prepare a Final Report documenting this information. The objectives of this project shall be to conduct archaeological test excavations at the site in order to assess significance of the site according to National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility criteria outlined in 36 CFR Part 60 and provide complete documentation as to the nature and character of the site.
