Solicitation 75H70122R00036 Amendment 02 Project: Replace Heat Plant– Pine Ridge, SD
QUESTIONS AND RESPONSES
Q1. There is no point of connection shown for the domestic hot water near the new DHW tanks where we connect to existing. I assume that it is where the 90 elbow is shown on the right‐hand side of the right tank?
A1. Please refer to Sheet M4 Demo Plan below. The point of disconnection of the hot water is shown and circled in red below. However, this may be tricky since there is no isolation valve on the main above if that pipe must be demolished in order to get the old hot water heaters out and the new ones in. This may require a shutdown of the domestic water for the facility. This will have to be closely coordinated with hospital leadership staff during construction if that is the case.
Q2. The domestic cold water to each new DHW tank is shown as 1‐1/4” and the domestic cold leaving the DHW tanks is shown as 3”? Is this correct?
A2. Contractor shall provide a new 3‐inch domestic cold‐water line size up until it branches to each new water heater in lieu of what is shown on the plan. Contractor shall then provide a 2‐1/2‐inch line size to connect to each water heater to match the water heater connection size in lieu of what is shown on plans which is good for approximately 470 non‐flush valve fixture units or 140 GPM @ 8 Ft/sec according to the UPC. Contractor shall provide a new 3‐inch domestic hot water pipe size leaving each new water heater as shown on plan.

Q3. There is a 1‐1/4” make‐up water line shown running across the top of the boiler? What is the intent here? I do not recommend a automatic make‐up water to the boiler system because if a leak occurs it will simply continue to fill the system and dilute the glycol.
A3. There are actually two new make up water lines shown on the drawings. Contractor shall demolish and cap both existing cold‐water lines at the point of disconnection shown on plans and not provide any new domestic makeup water to the new heating plant in lieu of what is shown on plans.
Q4. I do not see a glycol feeder shown anywhere on the plans only a pot feeder?
A4. Any new glycol feed system is not shown on the plan and is outside of the scope of this contract.
Q5. I see that grooved mechanical couplings are allowed for domestic but grooved is not mentioned in the
Hydronic Piping 23.21.13 ‐ will grooved couplings be approved on this project?
A5. Yes, grooved Schedule 40 carbon steel pipe will be accepted in lieu of welded or flanged piping called out in the specification.
Q6. The specs call for 2‐1/2” and larger hydronic piping to be butt welded or flanged welded. Can we use groove sch 40 piping in lieu of welding to match the piping we just installed in the new chiller plant?
A6. Yes, I would accept grooved Schedule 40 carbon steel for all piping 2.5 inches and larger in lieu of welded or flange welded piping that is called out in the specification.
Yes, I would accept type K or L copper for piping 2 inches and smaller in lieu of what is called out in the specification. Type M copper will not be allowed.
