Questions and Answers during Advertisement for
CA FLAP INY CR2022(2) – SOUTH LAKE ROAD
November 21, 2019
Questions Answers
1 In the project special provisions, Section 401 requires the asphalt a minimum of one percent Type 3 (lime) in the asphalt concrete mixture. Lime treatment is not required by our local state DOT in the proximity of the project. Can the requirement for antistrip additive type be opened to allow all types of antistrip additive types as designated according Subsection 702.05 with the dosage rate to be determined such that the minimum Tensile Strength
Ratio of 0.8 is met?
No, we will not change the spec as written.
2 The bid schedule of the project special provisions requires the development of the asphalt concrete for the pavement by gyratory mix design method; however, the modifications to Section 401 in the project special provisions requires the Hveem stabilometer to be verified with a Hveem stabilometer value on page E-41. Can the Hveem requirement in the modifications of Section 401 within the special provisions be removed since Hveem stabilometer is not used in the development of an asphalt concrete mixture by gyratory mix design?
No, we will not change the spec as written.
3 When a current state DOT JMF is submitted which has been developed with different aggregate and volumetric criteria for acceptance than that of the project special provisions, is the state
DOT asphalt mixture tested according to the requirements of the state DOT or that of the project special provisions?
JMF will be evaluated per Subsection 401.03(e). Material submitted in accordance with SCR 401.03(e)(7), will be used to determine the AASHTO
T 308 correction factor for the Government’s furnace. Asphalt will be accepted per Subsection 401.17
