Special Contract Requirements Project: AK BLM GFO 2019(1), Sourdough Campground Bridge project. Small amounts of in-stream material can be moved to help seal and secure diversion structures. Leakage through and under the barrier must be small enough to allow for proposed work or must be de-watered according to Subsection 208.07.
(2) After installing diversion and any temporary de-watering facilities, begin reducing the water level through the isolated work area. Do not de-water isolation area entirely until all fish and aquatic life have been removed.
(d) Diversion Channel. The diversion channel and isolation berms must:
(1) Span the active stream channel and floodplain as needed to divert all flow through a diversion; with a minimum flow capacity to support the Diversion Design Flood;
(2) Have sufficient upstream barrier height to effectively force the diverted water through the diversion channel; and
(3) Prevent overtopping of the diversion structure and isolation berm for all the actual flows occurring while work is being performed. less than or equal to the Diversion Design Flood event plus Diversion Freeboard.
(e) Site Specific Hydraulic Information.
Sourdough Bridge:
(1) Diversion Design Flood (Q2) 664 cubic feet per second
(2) Diversion Freeboard 1-foot
(f) Pumps. Pumps may be used to dewater isolated work areas, or continuous manage groundwater seepage.
Furnish pumps that are:
(1) Self-priming;
(2) Equipped with a variable speed governor;
(3) Equipped with a power source; and
(4) Able to pump water that contains soft and hard materials.
If fish may be present during pump dewatering, the intake must have a fish screen(s) and be operated in accordance with NMFS fish screen criteria. Ensure pumps include a fish screen with a minimum mesh size of 3/32 inch. Approach velocity should be less than 0.4 feet per second. If velocity is unknown, enclose the intake screen with a secondary screen box that is at least 3 feet on a side and covered with screen on all sides.
