About this file
This document is an "Offeror's Experience in Similar Projects" narrative from Sunland Asphalt & Construction, highlighting their micro-milling project experience primarily with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and the City of Prescott. The document details Sunland's recent projects across various highways and roads in Arizona, demonstrating their capabilities in road surface preparation and micro-milling services.
The narrative describes multiple micro-milling projects completed between 2021 and 2024, ranging from 60,000 to 240,000 square yards, typically involving surface treatment removal in preparation for future chip seal or micro-surfacing projects. Each project is characterized by Sunland's ability to complete work under the allocated time limits, often saving the department significant costs related to traffic control, labor, and project management. The projects were performed under various contract numbers, including ADOT contracts such as CTR050389, State JOC/Gordian Contract H-CTR063233-ez, and Micro-Milling Contract CTR071647, covering highways like SR79, US70, SR89, and SR95. Additionally, the company mentions complementary work under their Concrete Repair and Replacement Services contract CTR067773.

Sunland Asphalt & Construction has completed similar projects and specifically micro-milling projects over the last 3+ years for the department and other customers in the
Arizona market. Below is a list of more than (3) past Micro-Milling projects:
• In 2021 for the City of Prescott (Contract # 2021-156A1), Sunland Asphalt completed Micro-Milling project over 75,000 SY of a ¾” depth micro mill pattern on Iron Springs & Williamson Valley Rd as the prime contractor on this CMAR project. This project was innovative to save time and money by removing (micro-milling) only the existing surface treatment to avoid deeper removal of the asphalt surface and by saving the existing bike lane limits while ensuring the smoothness and rideability of both road sections improved.
• In August 2023 we completed the ADOT (Contract #CTR050389) SR79 Florence
Hwy NB & SB (MP138 to MP150) & US60 TI Micro-Milling project in preparation for a future Type III Micro Surfacing project by others. We completed over
240,000+ SY of ½” micro-milling to remove the existing chipseal. Sunland crews completed the work in less than the required 2-week time limit and saved the
Department over $50,000+ of additional costs related to traffic control devices, labor, off duty officers and project management.
• In September 2023 we also completed the ADOT (Contract #CTR050389) US70
EB & WB (MP275 to MP279.50) Micro-Milling project in preparation for a future
Type III Micro Surfacing project by others. We completed over 60,000+ SY of ½” micro-milling to remove the existing chipseal. Sunland crews completed the project in less than the required 1-week time limit and saved the Department over $10,000+ of additional costs related to traffic control devices, labor, off duty officers and project management.
• In April 2024 we completed the ADOT (State JOC Contract / Gordian Contract
#H-CTR063233-ez) SR89 Congress Hwy EB & WB (MP268.3 to MP272) Micro-
Milling project in preparation for a future Chip Seal Surfacing project by others.
We completed over 100,000+ SY of 1” micro-milling to remove the existing chipseal. Sunland crews completed the work in the required 1-week time limit and supplied the milling materials to a stockpile for ADOT future use. Sunland and the Department worked through a few potential issues regarding widths and tapers to ensure the surface was completely ready and prepared for the upcoming chipseal project. Sunland and the Department had excellent communication from start to finish to avoid any potential surface-related repairs and everything was completed to the satisfaction of the Department. Sunland made sure all the required temporary pavement markings were installed, and the entire project was clean and safe before demobilization occurred.
• In October 2024 we completed the ADOT (Micro-Milling Contract #CTR071647)
SR95 Parker NB & SB (MP131.4 to MP142.50) Micro-Milling project in preparation for a future Chip Seal Surfacing project by others. We completed over 190,000+ SY of 1” micro-milling to remove the existing chipseal surface and
220,000 LF of Temporary Pavement Markings. Sunland crews completed the entire project in less than the required 2-week time limit and saved the
Department over $70,000.00 per original budget PO’s related to traffic control devices, labor, off duty officers and management. The Chipseal by others was then completed before the ambient temperatures were out of specification.
Sunland has also performed removal and replacement of deck joints and seals on numerous bridges for ADOT under our Concrete Repair and Replacement Services contract #CTR067773
