About this file

This document is a Request for Information (RFI) for a kitchen equipment site preparation project at the Batavia VA Medical Center. The RFI addresses specific questions about the project, including asbestos testing of kitchen floor tiles (confirmed clear of asbestos), equipment unloading (Nalco will handle the new dishwasher), and demolition timing (during normal working hours with minimal kitchen disruption).

The related federal contract opportunity (Solicitation 36C24225B0043) is a 100% set-aside for Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSB) under NAICS Code 236220. The project involves modifying electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems to prepare for a new dishwasher installation, with work to be performed at the Batavia, NY VA Medical Center. The project is valued between $100,000 and $250,000, with anticipated contract award in August 2025. The contractor will coordinate with Ecolab to disconnect existing utilities and connect a new dishwasher and booster heater, which will be provided by others.

PROJECT#528A4-21-210

Q. Is the Kitchen Floor Tiles tested for asbestos material?

R. Yes. Kitchen floor tiles are tested and free of asbestos material. Asbestos testing report will be provided once the contract is awarded if requested.

Q. Who is unloading and moving the new Dishwasher and Booster Heater to the kitchen?

R. Nalco, who’s the provider of the dishwasher and booster heater, will be handling the new dishwasher.

Q. What time of the day shall the kitchen floor be demolished and installed, while the kitchen shall always be operational?

R. The kitchen floor will be demolished during normal working hours. Once the schedule is submitted, all materials is in place and ready to go, COR approved, the kitchen dishwasher room will be shut down for contractor use. Contractors should plan to work as quickly as possible to reactivate the dishwasher room as there is more than just the dishwasher machine that the kitchen staff use to serve our veterans.

Q. There are a couple of condensate pipes in the ground-floor hallway. Please identify which one shall be removed.

R. The condensate line for demolition is identified on drawings. It is the only condensate line that goes up into the kitchen dishwasher that is called out for demolishment.
