About this file
This is a NOAA Atlantic Marine Center standard specification (AMC-602-1) from September 1993 detailing requirements for weight test data plates used on NOAA boats and ships. The specification outlines requirements for corrosion-resistant steel plates with sunken etched characters to be used on boats, boat davits, cranes, booms, A-frames and other weight handling equipment.
The specification requires Type A plates measuring 6 inches by 4 inches with natural background and black characters, referencing MIL-P-15024E standards. Two designs are specified: Design I for booms, cranes, and A-frames, which includes fields for safe working load and 125% test load with measurements in feet and inches; and Design II for boats and boat davits, which includes fields for safe working load plus both 125% and 150% test loads. Both designs include spaces to record testing dates and locations, with a warning "DO NOT DEFACE OR REMOVE" at the bottom.
