Approach Back Upstream sign missing and Approach Ahead Upstream post missing. Remaining posts are deteriorated.

Severe pack rust at multiple connections. Bottom chord angles have severe section loss at L3-L4 and L10-L11 both

Upstream and Downstream (four total areas). See FCM report for additional details.

Missing 6 of 7 rivet heads of U2-L3 Downstream at U2 gusset plate connection.

The heads of 7 out of 7 rivets at L1-U2 (Downstream face) at L1 are missing and painted-over. Not a FCM member.

Paint failures with rust widespread throughout the structure. Typical corrosion and areas of pack rust largely concentrated at the lower chord joints. Most defects are typical at most to all locations.

ITEM REFERENCE AND REMARKS ~ NARRATIVE REPORT

Both curbs deteriorated throughout, more severe along the Back half of the bridge. Spalling up to 2 1/2" deep in multiple areas along the top of the curbs, 12 SF of Upstream and 6 of Downstream curb. Horizontal cracking up to

1/16" wide with heavy efflorescence along both curb fasciae near Abutment 1.

The dry-stacked stone walls beneath both concrete abutment caps have settled up to 2'-6" high.

The Abutment 2 cap has delaminations, cracking, and spalling with exposed rebar on the underside. Two spalls in Bay

4 and Bays 6 amd 7: 2'-6" wide x 6" deep x 6" high each with nearby delamination. Bays 5 - 7 are cracked with areas of delamination up to 2'-6" long x 5'-0" wide.

Erosion, and undercutting along the Back channel bank, upstream and downstream. Scour up to 4'-0" high just downstream of the bridge.

Remarks

Load posting signs present on both approaches.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Specific details for fracture critical members are located in the findings portion of this report. Refer to the Routine Bridge Inspection Report for recommended work items and superstructure rating.

The truss bridge was originally constructed in 1927 with a wooden deck. At some point, possibly in the 1950’s or 1960’s, the wooden approach spans were removed, the timber deck was replaced with a concrete deck, and the roadway was widened.

Paint failures with rust widespread throughout the structure. Typical corrosion and areas of pack rust largely concentrated at the lower chord joints. Most defects are typical at most to all locations and are not specifically noted for each element.

Floor beam ends typically have drilled unfilled holes in the bottom flange, 4 at each end.

Typical pack rust with minor section loss along the bottom flange connected to the truss lower chords.

The interior bottom chord angles are typically bent downward from pack rust up to ½” wide at each connection with the floor beams. At these locations, there is section loss along the top of bottom legs of the chord angles. Due to restricted accessibility, precise loss is difficult to measure. Estimated loss up to 1/16” thick.

Typical throughout, the lower chord angles have pack rust at the connections, pushing out the gusset plates angle connections up to ¼” apart. There is severe section loss at bottom chord angles L3-L4 and L10-L11 both Upstream and Downstream (four total areas). These are at symmetrical members of the bridge. There is severe pack rust pushing apart the top leg of the bottom chord angle and the spacer plate up to ½” apart.

There is corrosion and section loss of both steel elements along the interface.
