Project Grant R21AG095667
- The National Institute on Aging awarded The Leland Stanford Junior University $646,340 on June 15, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to construct and analyze a novel individual-level database linking health trajectories of older adults to the physical, mental, and economic well-being of their family members across multiple generations, covering 1999 to 2024. The recipient will leverage U.S. Census Bureau infrastructure for linking administrative data to examine...
- The National Institute on Aging, part of the Department of Health and Human Services, awarded The Leland Stanford Junior University $1,468,868 on January 15, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866, Program Grant R01AG097491) to investigate how the brain regulates organismal aging as a neural pacemaker controlling the tempo of aging across multiple organ systems. The research combines high-throughput longitudinal studies in killifish—a vertebrate model with a naturally compressed...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded The Leland Stanford Junior University $1.24 million on September 30, 2025, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to construct and analyze a novel individual-level database linking health trajectories of older adults to the physical, mental, and economic well-being of their family members across multiple generations, covering 1999 to 2024. The project leverages Census Bureau infrastructure for linking U.S. survey and administrative data to...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded The Leland Stanford Junior University $630,031 on September 1, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to develop an artificial intelligence-driven metabolic clock for distinguishing healthy aging from Alzheimer's disease and Alzheimer's disease-related dementias. The project uses large-scale untargeted metabolomics to identify metabolic deviations associated with cognitive decline in aging and dementia. The research tests the hypothesis...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded The Leland Stanford Junior University $125,766 on July 1, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to identify molecular mediators linking cardiometabolic risk factors to Alzheimer's disease. The research identifies plasma protein and metabolite mediators of cardiometabolic pathways that contribute to Alzheimer's disease risk using large-scale omics data from the UK Biobank and Million Veteran Program. The project comprises three specific aims:...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded The Leland Stanford Junior University $4.891 million on August 15, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to establish the Stanford University Artificial Intelligence and Technology Collaboratory (SU-AITC) Center for Precision Health & Interventions in Aging and AD/ADRD. The award funds the development and deployment of artificial intelligence algorithms, scalable digital biomarkers, and cost-effective digital interventions to translate...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded The Leland Stanford Junior University $127,926 on September 1, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to develop computational methods for analyzing three-dimensional spatial-omics data and apply them to study immune architecture changes in gut-associated lymphoid tissues during aging. The recipient will create machine learning tools and computational workflows to process three-dimensional multiplexed imaging data capturing epigenetic,...
- The National Institute on Aging, part of the Department of Health and Human Services, awarded The Leland Stanford Junior University $682,281 on September 1, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to develop a human induced pluripotent stem cell-based three-dimensional brain tissue microsphere model that recapitulates granulin deficiency phenotypes and associated pathology in neurodegenerative diseases including frontotemporal dementia and neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis. The model...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded The Leland Stanford Junior University $667,539 on September 1, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to support research on mechanisms of brain repair during aging, with the objective of preventing Alzheimer's disease and Alzheimer's disease-related dementia. The research characterizes neural stem cells (NSCs) during injury and aging to identify interventions that boost repair in aging brains. NSCs reside in specific brain regions...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded The Leland Stanford Junior University $251,532 on July 1, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to investigate genetic and proteomic pathways linking Alzheimer's disease to white matter hyperintensities in older adults. The research examines how Alzheimer's disease genetic liability drives white matter hyperintensity burden through circulating protein mediators, with particular focus on African American older adults who carry higher vascular...
The National Institute on Aging awarded The Leland Stanford Junior University $423,500 for a Project Grant on August 1, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866). The recipient will conduct the first rigorous study of neighborhood-level spillover effects of income transfers on health outcomes. The research investigates whether income gains accruing to low-income neighborhood residents generate health improvements among nonrecipients through peer diffusion of healthy behaviors and neighborhood improvements such as parks, transportation, and health clinics. The study leverages exogenous changes in Earned Income Tax Credit distributions over time to estimate spillover effects on cancer screening, preventive care visits, mental health, and substance use—leading causes of disease burden and premature death in low-income populations. Stanford will analyze individual-level electronic health record data from 8.2 million patients in 1,222 primary care practices across all 50 states linked to U.S. Census Bureau data and tax returns. Work will be performed in Palo Alto, California. The period of performance runs from August 1, 2026, through July 31, 2028.
