About this opportunity
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), a facility of the Department of Energy, is seeking to procure two High Resolution Compact Portable Mass Spectrometers for chemical composition analysis. The solicitation requires mass spectrometers with specific technical capabilities, including gas phase sample introduction, resolution greater than 2,500 (m/m) to differentiate between similar atomic mass constituents like N2 and CO, and a mass range up to 800m/z. The procurement is classified under the Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing NAICS category and Equipment and Materials Testing PSC category. The solicitation was posted on March 18, 2025, with proposals due by March 28, 2025, providing a tight 10-day window for potential vendors to submit their responses. While specific evaluation criteria are not explicitly detailed in the provided documentation, the technical specifications suggest a rigorous technical assessment will be a primary factor in vendor selection.
The solicitation does not have a specific set-aside designation, indicating it is open to all qualified vendors. The procurement is for two units of the specified mass spectrometer, to be delivered and utilized at the Oak Ridge, Tennessee location. The Bill of Materials document suggests the procurement will involve detailed specifications and potentially competitive pricing considerations, though exact budget ranges are not disclosed in the available documentation. The compact footprint requirement indicates a preference for portable, space-efficient scientific instrumentation. The procurement is part of the Department of Energy's civilian agency initiatives, focusing on advanced scientific research equipment that can provide precise chemical composition analysis through high-resolution mass spectrometry.
Notice text
ORNL is seeking two High Resolution Compact Portable Mass Spectrometers that are able to perform mass analysis to determine chemical compositions of test samples that meet the following critical operating requirements. The Mass Specs must have the ability to do gas phase sample introduction/measurement, resolution of >2,500 (m/▲m) to differentiate between similar atomic mass constituents (i.e. N2 and CO), a mass range at least up to 800m/z, and a small footprint <1mx1m. We are seeking a Kanomax InfiTOF-II mass spectrometer OR Equivalent.
Please see attached Bill of Materials (BoM) for all items to be included on Offeror's quote.
