About this opportunity
SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, operated by Stanford University for the Department of Energy, is soliciting a floating ion source (FDG 150) with proposals due August 18, 2026. This is a subcontract under SLAC's management and operating contract, not a direct federal procurement, and therefore not subject to the Federal Acquisition Regulations; however, certain federal laws, Executive Orders, and regulations apply as required by statute, regulation, or contract terms.
Place of performance is Menlo Park, California. The ion source must deliver a noble gas ion beam with ion current exceeding 5 amperes at 5 keV and 0.2 mm beam diameter, and greater than 10 nanoamperes at 10 eV ion energy for charge neutralization. An integrated electrostatic lens must achieve 50 mm working distance with spot size below 0.2 mm, include closed-loop constant beam current regulation, and support beam scan area up to 10 by 10 millimeters with keystone correction. All functions must be fully remote operable over TCP/IP network and integrable into an EPICS system. The unit must be compatible with the beamline ultra-high vacuum end station.
NAICS code is 3333, Commercial and Service Industry Machinery Manufacturing. PSC code is AJ12, General Science and Technology R&D Services. Subcontracts trigger FAR clauses based on value thresholds; proposals exceeding $3,500 require E-Verify certification, and those exceeding $100,000 require Toxic Chemical Release Reporting and Anti-Kickback certifications. Buy American Act certification is required. SLAC's supplemental rider effective August 2026 incorporates updated thresholds: micro-purchase at $15,000 and simplified acquisition at $350,000.
Notice text
SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is operated by Stanford University for the Department of Energy. As a management and operating contractor, subcontracts awarded by the Laboratory are not Federal procurements, and are not directly subject to the Federal Acquisition Regulations in 48 CFR. Nonetheless, certain Federal laws, Executive Orders, and regulations may affect our DOE approved purchasing system, as required by statute, regulation, or contract terms and conditions.
