About this file

This document is Addendum 1 for Request for Bid (RFB) 936000-01 issued by the Iowa Department of Administrative Services (DAS) for the Iowa PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) Fire Alarm Replacement project located at 6450 Corporate Drive in Johnston, Iowa. The addendum modifies the original bid documents, changing the bid due date to March 7, 2024 at 2 PM, and providing updates to specifications and drawings. The project involves replacing the fire alarm system with two primary alternates: Alternate 01 involves reusing existing speaker strobe and notification devices, while Alternate 02 involves installing new speaker strobe and notification devices. The project includes unit prices for adding or reducing addressable smoke and duct smoke detectors, with a target substantial completion date of September 5, 2024.

The bid package covers all labor, materials, equipment, and services required to complete the fire alarm system replacement, including demolition of existing systems and installation of new components. Bidders must submit their proposals through the IMPACS Electronic Procurement System and provide a bid security of 5% of the total bid amount. The project will require on-site supervision, daily logs, and coordination with Iowa PBS staff, who will handle the relocation of furniture and equipment during the construction process. Work hours are restricted to 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Thursday, with no noise-producing work permitted during filming times, typically on Fridays. Background checks will be required for personnel needing badges, and all construction workers must adhere to strict site rules, including no smoking, drugs, or alcohol on the premises.

REINSTALLATION. REPLACE DEVICES DAMAGED DURING DEMOLITION WITH NEW AT

CONTRACTOR’S EXPENSE.

9. EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEM THAT ARE REMOVED REMAIN THE PROPERTY OF THE OWNER

UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED. DISPOSE OF ALL MATERIALS NOT SALVAGED BY THE OWNER.

10. REMOVE AND REINSTALL CEILING TILES REQUIRED FOR THE WORK BEING DONE UNDER THIS

CONTRACT. REPLACE CEILING TILES DAMAGED DURING CONSTRUCTION TO MATCH EXISTING.

1. BECOME FAMILIAR WITH EXISTING CONDITIONS PRIOR TO BID.

2. INCREASE CONDUCTOR SIZES ON 20A 120V-1 PHASE CIRCUITS EXCEEDING 100 FEET TO

CENTER OF LOAD TO ACCOUNT FOR VOLTAGE DROP.

NOT USE CONDUIT SYSTEM AS THE ONLY EQUIPMENT GROUNDING METHOD.

4. CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR OPENINGS IN WALLS, FLOORS, AND CEILINGS THAT

ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THEIR SCOPE OF WORK. SEAL PENETRATIONS IN

ACCORDANCE WITH THE RATING OF THE AFFECTED ASSEMBLY. REFER TO OCCUPANCY

PLAN FOR RATED WALLS, FLOORS, AND CEILINGS.
