About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for RFP PR472297 for UT - Battle, LLC at ORNL, with responses due by 6/22/26. The document addresses two clarifications submitted by prospective offerors regarding technical specifications for polarizing supermirrors.
The first clarification concerns a discrepancy in coating material specification. Section 4.2 heading identifies the required coating as Fe/Si (iron/silicon), while the coating specification section listed Fe/Ti (iron/titanium). The government confirmed that Fe/Si is the correct standard layer material for polarizing supermirrors and the specification should be corrected accordingly. The second clarification addresses dimensional tolerances and surface finish requirements for silicon wafer substrates. The government specified that dimensional tolerance is plus or minus 0.002 mm, with no specific surface flatness requirement provided; instead, compliance is based on achieving high reflectivity performance with an average reflectance (Rave) of 88% or greater. These answers serve to align offeror understanding with actual procurement requirements for accurate proposal preparation.

Questions and Answers
RFP PR472297
UT - Battle, LLC at ORNL To 6/22/26 Question Answer We are reviewing Solicitation PR472297 and would appreciate your clarification regarding the coating material specified for the polarizing supermirror.
In Section 4.2, the heading states:
Polarizing Supermirror Fe/Si However, under the coating specification, it states:
Coating: Fe/Ti Could you please confirm which coating material is required for this procurement?
| • | Fe/Si, as indicated in the section title, or |
| • | Fe/Ti, as listed in the coating specification? |
We appreciate your clarification, as it will help us prepare an accurate proposal in accordance with the solicitation requirements.
The standard layer materials for polarizing supermirrors are Fe/Si, so the coating specification should be corrected to Fe/Si.
We would like to request clarification regarding the dimensional tolerances and surface finish requirements for the Si wafer substrates, as these parameters are required to ensure full compliance with the specification and to finalize a technically accurate quotation.
The dimensional tolerance is plus or minus 0.002 mm. There is not a specific number for the surface flatness so long as the reflectivity of the mirrors is high enough (Rave = 88%).
