Engineering Technician I
Key Elements: Performs simple routine tasks under close supervision or from detailed procedures. Work is checked in progress or on completion. Performs one or a combination of such typical duties as:
Assembles or installs equipment or parts requiring simple wiring, soldering, or connecting.
Performs simple or routine tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests; operates and adjusts simple test equipment; records test data. Gathers and maintains specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.; performs computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plots data and draws simple curves and graphs.
Key Skills and Abilities: Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology or related field, or military technical training program, or completion of technical institute program and 1 year of related experience.
Engineering Technician VI
Key Elements: Independently plans and accomplishes complete projects or studies of broad scope and complexity. Or serves as an expert in a narrow aspect of a particular field of engineering, e.g., environmental factors affecting electronic engineering. Complexity of assignments typically requires considerable creativity and judgment to devise approaches to accomplish work, resolve design and operational problems, and make decisions in situations where standard engineering methods, procedures, and techniques may not be applicable. Supervisor or professional engineer provides advice on unusual or controversial problems or policy matters; completed work is reviewed for compliance with overall project objectives. May supervise or train and be assisted by lower level technicians. Performs, at this level, one or a combination of such typical duties as:
Prepares designs and specifications for various complex equipment or systems (e.g., a heating system in an office building, or new electronic components such as solid state devices for instrumentation equipment).
Plans approach to solve design problems; conceives and recommends new design techniques; resolves design problems with contract personnel, and assures compatibility of design with other parts of the system.
Designs and coordinates test set ups and experiments to prove or disprove the feasibility of preliminary design; uses untried and untested measurement techniques; and improves the performance of the equipment. May advise equipment users on redesign to solve unique operational deficiencies.
Plans approach and conducts various experiments to develop equipment or systems characterized by (a) difficult performance requirements because of conflicting attributes such as versatility, size, and ease of operation; or (b) unusual combination of techniques or components. Arranges for fabrication of pilot models and determines test procedures and design of special test equipment.

Key Elements: The Flight Operations Engineer shall develop processes and procedures and perform real-time and off-line satellite operations including command and control of the satellite and/or instruments, process and analyze telemetry, mission planning, scheduling communication contacts, and identification, resolution, and prevention of anomalies.
Supports the development, integration and test, operations and maintenance of mission or science operations control center systems for spacecraft/instrument command and control, telemetry data processing and analysis, mission planning, and automation functions including generation of email and phone alert notifications.. The Flight Operations
Engineer shall work with the flight and ground systems developers prelaunch to specify the operations concepts and requirements, develop operations test plans, and perform integration and test functions. The Flight Operations Engineer shall work with systems maintenance personnel post launch to sustain and enhance the control centers and systems.
Key Skills and Abilities: Bachelor of Science degree, or equivalent education and experience, in engineering, mathematics, or physics. Knowledge of structured development of systems and processes, including requirements definition, and test methodology. Experience in operational work environment.
Key Elements: Performs routine planning functions throughout the life cycle of a mission or project. In the concept definition and feasibility phase, responsible for research and analysis and may be required to produce operations concepts and technical studies. In the requirements phase, researches requirements as well as interface agreements. Defines, generates, and reviews requirements documentation. Monitors mission/project status and provides reports to the customer as required. May be tasked to produce procedural documents and test plans. During the operational phase, resolves issues and anomalies as required. In the phase-down timeframe, may be required to conduct research and analysis and develop mission/project lessons learned. Such information typically includes the versions and changes that have been implemented.

Key Elements: Manages a segment of the organization's technical operations such as Satellite Operations, Software Systems, Logistics and Quality in compliance with established policies and procedures. Provides technical direction to staff and monitors performance to ensure compliance with contract. Key Elements: Performs varied and complex assignments of engineering testing of standard and/or custom, one-of-a-kind devices and instruments. Designs and develops test procedures and assists in the evaluation of test equipment required to perform quality checks. Prepares recommendations for testing and documentation of procedures to be used from product design phase through initial production. Appropriately identify and/or create needed data sources to enable verification of software functionality. Responsible for ensuring and certifying that all products meet quality and customer performance standards. Prepares final test report and provides recommendation on product acceptance or need for further development efforts. Provides leadership and training in new procedures to technician testing staff.
Key Skills and Abilities: Broad understanding of engineering fundamentals over a number of disciplines. Understanding of research instrumentation and equipment functions and goals. Ability to develop test plans and procedures that verify that test objects successfully meets performance specifications. Ability to analyze test data to support final quantitative assessment of test article performance.
Key Elements: Performs a variety of routine and non-routine tasks to ensure system specifications and quality standards are met. Assists in development of test procedures.
Performs set-ups, calibration, testing and troubleshooting of analog and digital electronic circuits, components, instruments, and mechanical assemblies. Recognizes failures and set-up problems and determines procedures for appropriate verification. Operates programmable autonomous testers, samplers, oscilloscopes, pulse generators, meters, power supplies, and special test fixtures. Assist in preparation of test reports.
Key Skills and Abilities: Understanding of basic engineering Principals. Ability to follow test procedures and collect required test data. Basic mathematical ability to assist in test data reduction. Ability to present test results in text, tabular, or graphical format.

Compose communication from product developers for users of the products. Users include scientists, engineers, and managers. Must write in a concise and easy-to-read manner for publications or in highly specialized language for experts. With the increased use of desktop publishing tools, responsibility is inclusive of the publication process involving graphics, layout, and document design. Analyze the needs of the target audience; study data and conduct in-depth interviews with subject matter experts to understand the product or procedure; produce or arrange for illustrations, charts, and photographs to be included in publications; and edit, standardize, or revise material prepared by other writers or personnel.

A degree in the discipline area of Computer Science, Computer Engineer, Software Engineering, or Management of Information Technology. area of Marketing, Journalism, or English.
