About this file
This document is a Request for Information (RFI) from the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence (USAACE) seeking information from industry partners and aviation training providers on solutions to transform the Army's Initial Entry Rotary-Wing (IERW) Flight Training at Fort Novosel, Alabama. The RFI aims to inform the Army's analysis and development of options to potentially replace the current IERW helicopter (Lakota LUH-72) in order to reduce costs, gain efficiencies, and maintain or increase aviation training quality. USAACE is interested in exploring a Government Owned (Aircraft), Contractor Operated (GOCO) or a Contractor Owned, Contractor Operated (COCO) solution, as well as broader industry participation for providing academic instruction, flight instruction, training aids and devices, simulation, aircraft, aircraft parts, and maintenance. Responses to this RFI are due by December 6, 2024, and will be used to inform future acquisition activities. No specific solicitation is planned at this time, but the responses could impact the Government's decision to release multiple solicitations in the future.

The largest of our maintenance hangars, 30300 spans 88,460 square feet. Here, 63,432 square feet are designated for hangar and shop space, ensuring all the aircraft are kept in top condition.
The Vehicle Maintenance Shop at building 30705 can handle up to four vehicles across its 3,665 square feet, ensuring the ground operations run smoothly.
With 7,822 square feet, aircraft part storage building 30800 ensures all necessary components are securely stored and readily accessible.
Remote Training (RT) Site
(Start talking at intersection)
Remote Training (RT) Sites are government owned, or private property leased by the government, used by aircraft in support Fort Novosel’s flight training mission. Leased RT sites are generally hay fields and vary in sizes from as small as 2 acres or as large as 50 acres.
RT sites support both Phase I Basic Warfighter Skills (BWS) and Phase II (Go-to-War Aircraft) flight training. They are also used by graduate level training courses.
Dependent upon the size of a RT, they can be used for single or multi-aircraft training. (Aircraft densities determined by terrain flight area primary user).
Out the right side of the bus you’ll see RT-47. This is a government owned 20-acre RT site used primarily by CH-47s and AH-64s. This is the only RT that has Slope Trainers constructed on the site.
Shell AHP
Welcome to Shell Army Heliport.
Basic Warfighter Skills (BWS) (tactical army aviation training) is based out of Shell.

Building 60127, our aircraft part storage facility covers 7,671 square feet, ensuring all critical components are securely stored and easily accessible.
Building 60128, contains typical academic classrooms. (2)
Hangar 60104 spans 12,034 square feet. With 6,882 square feet dedicated to hangar and shop space, and 4,173 square feet for admin and offices, to help maintain seamless maintenance operations. NOTE – hangars were constructed to support much smaller aircraft than currently being used by.
Maintaining cleanliness and operational efficiency, the Wash Facility at building 60143 spans 2,647 square feet, designed for thorough aircraft cleaning.
Hangar 60105. Covering 11,854 square feet, it houses 7,901 square feet for hangar and shop activities, supported by 3,433 square feet of office space, keeping everything running smoothly.
The Vehicle Maintenance Shop at building 60129, with 3,141 square feet, supports up to four vehicles, ensuring the fleet is always mission-ready.
Ech Stagefield
Reminder - photo’s are not authorized.
Ech Stagefield is one of the 15 stagefields and is used primarily by AH-64s.
Although Ech is used by AH-64s, all of the UH-72 stagefields are set up in a similar footprint.
Stagefields have an Air Traffic Control Tower, Crash/Fire Rescue, and hot refuel.
The have aircraft parking ramp, 2 hot refuel points that can refuel 2 aircraft simultaneously, and 2 slope trainers.
Fuel is provided by above ground fuel tanks.
Under the current refuel contract those aircraft conducting hot refuel with 2 student pilots, one of the student pilots exits the aircraft and performs fire guard duties.
Landing lanes are either 50’ or 75’ wide and 1,600’ in length. The lanes are 200’ on center and meet the FAA requirements for simultaneous landings and takeoffs.
Aircraft density is 3 aircraft per lane. (Stagefield density includes only those aircraft in the closed traffic pattern).
