PART 1 G E N E R A L
1.01 SECTION INCLUDES
A. Cast-in-place inlets for storm sewers, including cast iron frame and plate or grate.
B. Cast-in-place headwalls and wingwalls for storm sewers.
1.02 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
A. Unit Prices.
1. Include cost of work performed under this section in the pay items of which this work is a component, gatewell structures as applicable.
2. Payment for inlets and for culvert headwalls and wingwalls includes connection of lines.
3. Refer to Paragraph 1.04, Definitions.
4. Refer to Section 01 27 00 - Measurement and Payment for unit price procedures.
B. Reserved.
1.03 REFERENCE
A. ASTM C 270 - Specification for Mortar for Unit Masonry.
1.04 DEFINITIONS
A. Normal Depth Type B Inlet: Depth of 2.08 feet (2'-1") plus pipe inside diameter when measured from top of curb beam to flow line of inlet lead.
B. Normal Depth Type BB Inlet: Depth of 2.55 feet (2'-6-5/8") plus pipe inside diameter when measured from curb beam to flow line of inlet lead.
C. Extra Depth Inlet: Specified depth exceeding normal depth for the type inlet used.
1.05 SUBMITTALS
A. Submittals shall conform to requirements of Section 01 33 00 - Submittal Procedures.
B. Submit shop drawings for compliance-confirmation of design and construction details for cast-in-place units which differ from units shown on Drawings.
C. Submit manufacturers' data and details for frames, grates, rings, and covers.
PART 2 P R O D U C T S
2.01 MATERIALS
A. Concrete: Class A concrete with minimum compressive strength of 4000 psi conforming to requirements of Section 03 35 00 - Concrete Finishing, unless otherwise indicated on Drawings.
B. Reinforcing Steel: Conform to requirements of Section 03 35 00 - Concrete Finishing.
C. Mortar: Conform to requirements of ASTM C 270, Type S using Portland cement.
D. Use brick units made from clay or shale, conforming to requirements of ASTM C 32, Grade MS. Units shall have the following physical properties:
USIBWC Contract No.: IBM09B0002 Page 33.63.20 - 2 4287-06
1. Compressive Strength: 2500 psi minimum for individual brick; 3000 psi average for 5 bricks.
2. Water Absorption: For the 5-hour boiling test, 20 percent maximum for individual brick; 17 percent average for 5 bricks.
3. Size: 2-1/4" by 7-5/8" by 3-5/8". Permissible variation is not more than 1/8 inch in either transverse direction or more than 1/4 inch in length.
4. Test Procedure: ASTM C 67.
5. Brick may be cored up to 25 percent.
6. Firing and fired bond to meet compressive strength for brick class used.
E. Miscellaneous metals: Cast-iron frames, grates, rings, and covers conforming to requirements of
Section 33 08 40 - Frames Grates, Rings, and Covers.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 EXAMINATION
A. Verify lines and grades are correct.
B. Verify compacted subgrade will support loads imposed by inlets.
3.02 INSTALLATION
A. Construct inlets, headwalls, and wingwalls complete in place to the dimensions, lines and grades as shown on Drawings.
B. Excavate in accordance with requirements of Section 31 31 70 - Excavation and Backfill for Utilities.
C. The box section of inlet may be constructed of Class A concrete or of brick.
D. Plaster brick inlets with 1/2-inch mortar on the inside. The walls for brick inlets shall be a minimum of 8 inches thick.
E. Forms will be required for both the outside and inside faces of concrete inlet walls, however, if the nature of the material excavated for the inlet is such that it can be hand trimmed to a smooth vertical face, the outside forms may be omitted with compliance-confirmation of COR.
F. Place reinforcing steel to conform to details shown on the Drawings. Provide a positive means for holding steel cages in place during concrete placement. Welding of reinforcing steel is not permitted unless noted on the Drawings. The maximum variation in reinforcement position is plus or minus 10 percent of wall thickness or plus or minus 1/2 inch whichever is less. Regardless of variation, the minimum cover of concrete over reinforcement as shown on the Drawings shall be maintained.
G. Chamfer exposed edges unless otherwise indicated on Drawings.
3.03 FINISHES
A. Cut off inlet leads neatly at the inside face of inlet wall. Point up with mortar.
B. When the box section of the inlet has been completed, shape the floor of the inlet with mortar to conform to the detailed Drawings.
C. Finish concrete surfaces in accordance with requirements of Section 03 35 00 - Concrete Finishing.
