15) Please clarify how many lessons are in a model unit, as well as what unit of time a model unit is intended to cover (e.g. 6-10 days vs. 1/4 of the school year). There are a couple of references to the model unit that seem to present conflicting definitions:
Answer: On page 41 of the amended solicitation answers these questions. A model unit is defined (1) “…as a set of six or more lessons focused on a single topic/unit based on resources such as those developed by EQuIP Model Units and sequenced in curriculum plans and maps, e.g. EngageNY” and (2) is comprised “…of six or more lessons focused on a single topic/unit based on resources such as those developed by EQuIP Model Units and sequenced in curriculum plans and maps, e.g. EngageNY (www.engageny.org).”
16) On page 41 of the amended solicitation, it states that the model units will “…use open source education resource model units validated through the EQuIP rubric” Are vendors required to draw from these model units?
Answer: Yes. Vendors are expected to use “open education resource model units validated through EQuIP” (41). You are not limited to drawing only from EQuIP; but the requirement is to vet the unit using the EQuIP rubric.
17) On page 58 of the amended solicitation, a model unit is defined as “1/4 of the school year in length.”
Also, on pages 57–58, it says: “Each of the individual six model units of an academic year shall consist of several units . . .” Using the term "units" twice in the same sentence seems to conflict with the definition of a model unit on page 41. Please clarify.
To show what students will be learning, each model unit shall have a summary / framing that shows coherent progressions of learning experiences and trajectories at‐a‐glance and descriptions of how they interconnect and build upon one another for the stated time (quarter of the year). 58
Each of the individual six model units of an academic year shall consist of several units that are sequenced meaningfully to ensure coherence for students. 57‐58
Answer: The six model units referenced mean the lifetime of the contract - two per year; one in the fall and one in the spring. Each unit consists of a group of six lessons focused on a single topic (page 41). Depending on the depth and topic of a unit, the length and depth of the lessons, a unit could take nine weeks (a quarter of a school year with 18 weeks constituting a semester), but a unit could also take less than a quarter of a school year.
The sentence in question should read: Each of the individual six model units of an academic year shall consist of several lessons that are sequenced meaningfully to ensure coherence for students.
