This modification hereby answers the following questions in reference to Amendment #9.
Q: You are asking for Formaldehyde Free Pbc. I am not aware of any manufacture that can make Formaldehyde Free Pbc. There are plenty of NAUF
(no added urea formaldehyde) particleboards on the market. Is this what you all are asking for in lieu of Formaldehyde Free.
A: We are asking for product that meets the required limits for formaldehyde emitted from composite wood panels as established by the California Air Resource Board (CARB) Q: You are also asking for water resistant Pbc. There is no such thing.
There is a moisture resistant Pbc, is this what you meant.
A: We are asking for Moisture resistant product
Q: Does this new particleboard spec apply to any of Allenwoods panels or is it only for the Coleman Florida Pbc spec? If so, can you please tell me specifically what part numbers this new spec applies to.
A: The specification does not differentiate between the locations at which they will be used.
Q If this new spec does apply to Allenwood's panels, I would request an extension be put in to allow for time to send in full panels to run through your finishing operation to test for compatibility with your finishing system. By requesting an NAUF core will require a glue line change for veneer application and I am not sure this change will not cause internal issues in your finishing operation specifically bubbling of veneer through your drying booths.
A: As stated before the specifications apply to all locations. We are requiring CARB compliant products not NAUF
Q: The Amendment 9 did not address open questions with regard to the veneer core "PLY____" items. Amendment 6 stated, ".What about the PLY____ such as
PLY0193? Will it need to meet the FSC, formaldehyde emissions, Fire Rating, and Moisture Resistant properties? A: yes, it should meet these requirements" A: As a result of later modificications, requirements for PLY items should meet the same requirements as Particleboard items.
Q: I notice that FSC and Green Seal Certified is omitted. Please confirm.
Particularly with regard to Birch I have found no such core and do not think that it is available. I am assuming since the Fire Rated designation was lifted on the PB that it will be the same for the veneer core, correct?
A: This is correct
Q: Formaldehyde Free Emissions
This is not available. No Added Formaldehyde is available, but there will be no such thing as "Formaldehyde Free" in a wood product simply because wood has formaldehyde in it naturally.
A: We are asking for product that meets the required limits for formaldehyde emitted from composite wood panels as established by the California Air Resource Board (CARB) Q: Water Resistant
"Moisture Resistant" ANSI-MR10 is available with the above properties marked
"OK.
A: We are asking for Moisture resistant product
Q: Does the veneer on phenolic also need to be FSC, No Added Formaldehyde (I don't think it's possible with phenolic) and moisture resistant as well?
A: We are asking for product that meets the required limits for formaldehyde emitted from composite wood panels as established by the California Air Resource Board (CARB) Q: The amendment 9 states that Fire Rated PB must be available from the manufacturer. That will not be a problem except the properties will vary from those specified because the manufacture that meets the physical properties for the specification does not manufacture a Fire Rated version at present. The price guarantee is going to be an issue. The manufacturer that makes the product specified above does not report the product to Random Lengths and therefore there is no basis for adjustments up or down. The manufacturer may guarantee prices for shorter periods of time. Should we just quote with our suggestions for price adjustments since Random Lengths cannot be used?
A: UNICOR is requesting that Fire Rated PB be available upon request during the contract period if a UNICOR customer request it. If it is needed, UNICOR will contact the contractor at that time, to obtain pricing, and a contract modification will be done to add the Fire Rated material. At this time Fire Rated material is not part of the solicitation.
The closing date for this solicitation is hereby extended until Friday September 17, 2010 at 2:00 pm EST.
Except as provided herein, all other terms and conditions remain unchanged.
