Questions and Answers part 3

FA8224-12-R-0020

1- Would a powder coat finish be acceptable as long as it meets the color chip number of 26173?

A- A Powder Coat finish will be acceptable.

2- Is there a specific plastic sheet being requested? The drawings are really vague. Are they looking for Polyethylene, Polycarbonate, Acetal or Acrylic? Also, are they looking for it to be 'Green' in color?

A- The specific color of the plastic sheeting is not defined, nor is a specific color required. The purpose of the plastic sheeting is to provide a durable, weather/chemical (oil/hydraulic fluid) resistant surfaces that will protect the pylon during storage and transportation (temperature from -30 deg F to 200 deg F). The plastic cover sheet will provide a superior surface to that of plywood, and will not absorb fluid, breakdown when stored out in the elements, and also provides a smooth surface that is easy to clean. The drawing defines the plastic cover sheet as being 1/4" thick and mounted to the top of the plywood shelves.

There are many different types of plastics available that will meet the requirements and satisfy the needs of the cover sheet. The Following is a list of plastics that would be acceptable (not comprehensive); Acetal, Acrylic (suitable for outside use), Fluoropolymers (such as PTFE), Garolite (suitable type that is resistant to moisture and impact), Nylon, Polycarbonate, Polyester, and Polyethylene to name several. Whichever base material is selected is must meet the requirements outlined on the drawing [ Durable (resist impact), weather resistant (resistant to moisture and UV rays), abrasion resistant (low coefficient of friction), and chemical resistant].

3- On the questions and answers document, item number five states all hardware including the rods to be stainless steel. What grade of stainless steel is acceptable, 304 or 316?

A- Either would be acceptable, but 304 stainless (or 18-8) should be sufficient for this application.
