Life Safety/Fire Protection Design Analysis
Name of Project:
Phase or Type of Project:
(completion of this form is required for both in-house prepared designs as well as for A/E prepared designs)
Instructions: The information outlined in this document shall be used as the minimum requirement for development of Life Safety/ABA/Fire Protection Code Review. Additional and supplemental information may be used to further develop the code review as identified in the
PMP.
1. Applicable Codes and Standards
Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC): 1-200-01, General Building Requirements
Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC): 3-600-01, Design: Fire Protection Engineering For Facilities
International Building Code (IBC) 2000 for fire resistance requirements, allowable floor area, building height limitations and building separation distance requirements, except as modified by UFC 3-600-01.
National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 101 Life Safety Code (latest edition), for building egress and life safety. For conflicts between IBC and NFPA 101, conform to NFPA 101 and applicable criteria UFC 3-600-01.
2. Occupancy Classification IBC

7. Automatic Sprinklers and other Extinguishing Equipment
UFC 3-600-01
Used to determine the need for automatic extinguishing systems, foam systems, standpipe systems, wet chemical systems, etc. State which systems are required and to what criteria they will be designed.
UFC 3-600-01 Sprinkler Occupancy Classification - note the classification for each room. This may be accomplished by classifying the entire building and noting exceptions for rooms that differ. (E.g., The entire building is Light Hazard except boiler room and storage rooms are ..., etc.)
UFC 3-600-01 Sprinkler System Type (Wet or Dry) Sprinkler Design Density, Sprinkler Design Area, Water Demand for Hose Streams (supply pressure and source requirements).
