Boise and Sawtooth Specifications for Aerial Treatments
· Provide a minimum buffer of 300 feet for aerial herbicide application around developed campgrounds and private land (unless otherwise authorized by adjacent private landowners).
· Apply a 300-foot, no-aerial application herbicide buffer around all live water (i.e., perennial streams, flowing intermittent streams, lakes, ponds, springs, and wetlands).
· Do not aerially apply herbicide in designated municipal watersheds. Idaho/Utah Department of Environmental Quality Source Protection Areas will not be included in aerial application areas.
· Do not aerially apply herbicide in Research Natural Areas or Designated Wilderness areas. Do not aerially apply herbicide within 0.25-mile of a Designated Wild and Scenic River (including the Recreation classification) and rivers determined to be eligible for inclusion in the Wild and Scenic River System.
· Do not aerially apply herbicide over areas with more than 30 percent live tree canopy cover.
· Do not aerially apply herbicide when sustained wind speeds exceed 5 mph or label recommendations, whichever is less.
· Do not apply aerial herbicide treatments during inversions, below minimum relative humidity, or above maximum temperature, as stated on the label.
· Obtain a weather forecast for the area prior to initiating a spraying project to ensure no extreme precipitation or wind events are predicted to occur during or immediately after spraying that could facilitate runoff or drift into waterbodies.
· For 10 percent of aerial units containing "no spray buffers," drift monitoring cards will be placed out to 300 feet from and perpendicular to perennial streams to monitor for herbicide drift (see Appendix A for more specifics).
· In the unlikely event that drift does occur into the 300-foot buffer, applicators will modify practices during the operation and prevent any additional impacts.
