Section 713. — ROADSIDE IMPROVEMENT MATERIAL

05/20/16– FP-14

713.04 Seed. Add the following:

Furnish a mixture consisting of the following kinds of seed with the corresponding percentages by weight of “live seed”:

Slender wheatgrass (Elymus trachycaulus ssp. trachycaulus) 15%

Bluebunch wheatgrass (Pseudoroegneria spicata) 10%

Bluebunch wheatgrass (Pseudoroegneria spicata) 10%

Big bluegrass (Poa secunda spp. Ampla) 10%

Canada Wildrye 7%

Sandberg bluegrass 8%

Thickspike wheatgrass (Elymus lanceolatus) 12%

Tufted hairgrass ( Descampisa caespitiosa) 3%

Mountain brome (Bromus marginatus) 15%

Idaho fescue 10%

Determine the amount of “live seed” in a container by the following formula:

Net weight of seed in container multiplied by the purity percentage multiplied by the germination percentage. (If seed is 85 percent pure and tests 90 percent germination, then a 100 pound container would contain 76.5 pounds of “live seed”).

Seed must be certified noxious weed seed free from the current “Western States Noxious Weeds List.” Lot must be tested by a certified seed laboratory.

713.06 Plant Material. Add following:

(f) Bank Willow Pole Plantings. Use healthy, straight, and live tree-type willows at least 1 year old. Stakes for planting must be 1 to 3 inches in diameter. Cuttings must be fresh and kept moist after they have been harvested. Do not cut to length, trim, or prune stakes until the same day they will be installed.

(g) Emergent Willow Pole Plantings. Use healthy, straight, and live shrub-type willows at least 1 year old. Stakes for planting must be 0.75 to 3 inches in diameter. Cuttings must be fresh and kept moist after they have been harvested. Do not cut to length, trim, or prune stakes until the same day they will be installed.

(h) Cottonwood Pole Plantings. Use healthy, straight, and live cottonwoods at least 1 year old. Harvest plants and stakes during dormant season. Stakes for planting must be 1 to 3 inches in diameter. Cuttings must be fresh and kept moist after they have been harvested.
