Kinney Road Project

Question #1 The Government has specified Pulverization of Asphalt to a depth 6-Inches. Pulverizing companies are concerned about hitting rocks because we don’t know how thick AC and or ABC base is. The 6 inch Pulverizing depth call out in the plans is a maximum depth.

Response: The Pulverizing depth can be reduced based on field asphalt depth encountered.

The contractor is welcome to investigate exact asphalt depths before Pulverization operation begin to prevent damage to equipment. This depth investigation is considered subsidiary to the pulverizing item.

Question #2 Sheet K1 shows milling transitions but there is no bid item for milling? Is milling even necessary since we are reconstructing road?

Response: Milling transitions are not required on a new road. The detail is in the plan to define the milling transition criteria, if the contractor plans to proposed phased construction that would require a milling transition. The K1 detail would be implemented for use on the project.
