About this file
This document appears to be an attachment to a federal contract opportunity related to the replacement of the fire suppression system at the Lynch-Kennedy Building in Skagway, Alaska.
The key details are as follows: The attachment provides information about the existing fire suppression system and required modifications. The current system includes a deluge system that may no longer be needed due to the installation of a fire suppression system in the adjoining "Pack Train" building. The attachment highlights areas where the ceiling and piping/sprinkler heads need to be removed and replaced, including in an unheated, covered space between the two buildings and in a lofted space above the mechanical rooms. The government's preference is to install the supply piping at the proper elevation/grade to accommodate the existing holes in a structural beam. The work is to be performed by NPS Day Labor. The related federal contract opportunity is for the "REPLACE FIRE SUPRESSION - Construction, LYNCH-KENNEDY BLDG - SKAGWAY, AK" and is solicitation number 140P9724R0001, issued by the Department of the Interior National Park Service Alaska Region.

Design Replacement System swith enough water delivery to 1st floor in the event of a fire suppression in the crawlspace is not needed and piping/sprinkler heads can be abandoned
In order to replace 1st floor branch lines, NPS Day Labor will remove and replace ceiling plywood sheathing and drywall.
Highlighted heads & associated piping in are inside a n unheated, covered space between the L&K and adjoining building. Note on the plan for the 3"-1.1/4" pipe is incorrect. This piping is in the space between the buildings as well. Location of this piping on the plans is the location of a large, structural load carrying beam the branch lines must pass through. Holes in the beam may need to be modified to properly grade branch lines. Gov't preference is Supply piping be installed at proper elevation/grade to accommodate existing holes in the beam.

Adjoining building, "The Pack Train", was not protected by FSS when L&K was rehabilitated and the deluge system was installed to project the L&K if the Pack Train caught fire. A FSS has since been installed in the Pack Train and the deluge system may no longer be needed/ required. Preference would be to dismantle/remove deluge system and not replace if not needed.
Fire Suppression piping/heads for the 2nd floor can all be accessed from the Attic.
This is the roof covering the space where the supply lines and beginning of branch lines for the first floor begin.
