About this file

This technical specification document is for a Type 3 Wildland Fire Apparatus developed by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and the State of California General Services Department. The specification details comprehensive requirements for a custom-built fire apparatus designed for wildland firefighting, including precise technical specifications for chassis, cab, pump systems, electrical components, emergency lighting, body construction, and paint requirements. The document outlines detailed requirements for a 4x4 chassis with a Cummins L-9 diesel engine, specific dimensional constraints, performance standards, and specialized equipment configurations tailored for CAL FIRE's operational needs in wildland fire response scenarios.

The specification includes specific requirements for specialized equipment such as a 500-gallon polypropylene booster tank, fire pumps with precise performance metrics, foam proportioning systems, compartment designs, emergency lighting configurations, and communication systems. The apparatus must meet stringent NFPA 1901 and 1906 standards, with extensive customization to support CAL FIRE's unique operational environment. The document indicates the apparatus will be color-coded in CAL FIRE Red (Sikkens 2303) with white roof, and must undergo rigorous pre-construction conferences to finalize specific design details. While no specific pricing is mentioned, the comprehensive specification suggests a high-end, purpose-built emergency response vehicle with significant technical complexity and specialized design requirements.
