Questions 8-17-2010

Q1 Drawing #S1.1 128 of 183 shows perimeter footings at elevation 92’-6” to top of footing. Amendment Number 01 soils test report recommends foundations to be placed on poorly graded gravel (GP.GM) which within the building footprint is at approximately 4’ below grade. Which footing elevation is correct?

A1 The reason for this is the building is to be elevated above existing grade a number of feet, and the soil has been disturbed in the parts of the building location making it not necessarily consistent with the soils test report. The depth of footing (92'-6") was established based on the estimated depth of the poorly graded gravel layer.

Provide footing depths as required by Sheet S1.1, 128 of 183.

Q2 I have a few questions on the salmon air base electrical plans. The first is, Is the forest service going to do their own telecom work? Also, where is the 480V primary power for the helipad power coming from?

A2 The Forest Service will be installing the telecom that is not show in the plans and noted in the specifications. The 480V Power is coming from a transformer inside the building. See Exterior Power and Control Detail on Sheet E6.

Q3 In the Projection Screen Section 111320, the screen models that are listed are electric models. On the plans it calls for a manual pull down screen, which type of screen do you want. In addition, on sheet A108 note #06 you mention the manual Advantage screen; however, this screen is a recessed screen and in all of the sections and elevations, you shown the screen mounting to the ceiling not recessed.

Please clarify the mounting and model.

A3 Provide recessed, manual VA projection screen, Advantage Manual CRS, by Da-lite, 120" X 52".

Q4 Can the requirement for AISC Certification for the steel erector be waived? Reason being that the closest qualified erector that we can find is in California and will not travel for the small amount of steel to be erected. Ref. Spec 051200 1.5 B.

A4 As long as note H.3 of the Structural Notes on sheet S0.2 are met the AISC Certification can be waived. This note refers to IBC requirements and requires special inspection during the fabrication process.

Q&A 5 Questions from a truss manufacturer. a.) Sheet S1.2 (129/183) shows 2 double trusses between the training and fitness rooms. Appears to be supporting a folding partition- what weight do these need to support?

Assuming 80 pounds per running foot of door with a stacking ratio of 3:1. This should be verified with the actual door ordered. At the very least the trusses should each be designed with the minimum loads of the typical trusses.

b.) Sheet S1.2 appears to show double trusses in cache room at outlookers. Why are those there?

If the actual truss design by the fabricator justifies not using double trusses this is acceptable.

c.) Why is the snow load and live load specified separately? Why are there 2 dead loads specified? He said they typically have a Top chord live load and top chord dead load and a bottom chord live load.

Use the snow load criteria for the top chord. Apply 10 psf live load and 10 psf dead load to bottom chords. Apply remaining 12 psf dead load to top chord.
