C.1 INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND

The Department requires a Contractor for the installation, maintenance, and warranty of cabling services at Department Project Units, that include secure areas designated for the incarceration of Inmates, throughout the State of Texas.

The Department has an aging network cabling infrastructure that has hampered modernization efforts. While the Department has worked diligently to bring modern broadband services to Department units, the current infrastructure inhibits the ability to bring high-speed internet to these facilities. Many of the current and future technological solutions that the Department will require depend on a modern network backbone that meets current industry standards. With cabling still heavily in use at several facilities, slow network performance and traffic bottlenecks occur frequently. Statewide broadband cabling upgrades and expansion will address current/ongoing issues and provide the Department with the infrastructure capable of integrating new technologies.

C.2 GENERAL SCOPE OF WORK

Cabling for the BCCE Project is to be installed ` at the Project Units listed in Exhibit J.15, BCCE Cabling Unit Site List. Cable installations shall follow applicable standards as referenced in Section C.9.8, Codes. The Contractor shall provide all necessary materials and labor to complete the defined scope of Services at all awarded locations.
