Dehumidification Upgrades at NCTC Question and Answer Set 1

Question 1: According to page 136 Section D – Liner - all ducts require 2” liner. Please clarify which duct should have the 2” liner, if any at all? Was there a misprint, as all do not usually require 2” liners?

Answer 1: In regards to insulation required on ducts, please refer to Paragraph 3.10

Insulation Schedule in Spec 230713. In regards to Metal Ducts, the “Liner” paragraph covers the liner for areas where duct wrap cannot be used or a minor modification is required for new work. Duct liner is not required in new ductwork, but in needed spec if applicable to lining duct rather than insulating.

Question 2: According to page 129 Section C – 8 + 9 - duct shall have liner between the duct and an inner duct comprised of sheet metal the same thickness with 3/32 “ perforations. Please clarify which ducts shall be double wall, if any at all?

Answer 2: Double wall duct is not required unless existing to remain was damaged during renovation and needs to be replaced.

Question 3: According to page 149 Section C – 1 + 2a – After installation of the duct work is complete, does it need to be professionally cleaned by a 3rd party chosen by the owner?

Answer 3: No, new duct should be protected during construction.

Question 4: Are Seismic Restraints Devices required?

Answer 4: No, vibration isolation is though, per specifications.

Question 5: In mechanical tunnel G30D where new exhaust duct penetrates the rated access door required? I.E.: drawing M-401 – E – T : none shown.

Answer 5: Access doors required everywhere a fire damper is installed (i.e. in rated access walls in the tunnel).

Question 6: Could more than one building be done at once?

Answer 6: No two lodges shall be out of commission concurrently, however the tunnel work may be conducted at the same time as a lodge.

Question 7: Is duct leak-testing required?

Answer 7: No. Quality control steps shall be implemented by the Contractor to ensure compliance with ASHRAE.

Question 8: Is commissioning or a commissioning agent required?

Answer 8: No. Commissioning in this project is not a third party. It is startup procedures, testing, and Owner training. This can be completed by the General Contractor and their respective subcontractors installing the work.

Question 9: Is start up with Maintenance staff training required?

Answer 9: Yes, per spec 234108, paragraph 3.6. This shall be coordinated between the

Contractor and the maintenance staff.
