The National Cancer Institute (NCI) awarded a $258,945 Project Grant under the Cancer Cause and Prevention Research program (CFDA 93.393) to The Leland Stanford Junior University, effective September 1, 2026 through August 31, 2029. The award funds the adaptation and pilot testing of "Roadmap to Parenthood," an evidence-based, interactive decision aid and planning tool designed to address family building concerns among young adult cancer survivors. The project will expand the existing web-based intervention—originally developed for women who completed gonadotoxic cancer treatment—to serve high-risk young adult cancer survivors facing fertility challenges resulting from cancer treatment. Deliverables include adaptation of the intervention guided by the ADAPT-ITT (Adaptation of Designs and Interventions for Effectiveness-Implementation-Transition-Translation) framework and trauma-informed research methods, conducted in partnership with a Community Advisory Board. The project will produce tangible outputs including qualitative feedback from four focus groups with 32 young adult cancer survivors, usability testing results from 10 target users, expert consensus recommendations developed through the Delphi method, and comprehensive feasibility and acceptability data from a single-arm pilot trial with 40 participants evaluated at baseline, one month, and three months post-intervention. These deliverables will generate evidence to support a future randomized clinical trial and provide young adult cancer survivors with enhanced access to resources addressing the medical, psychosocial, financial, legal, and logistical barriers associated with family building after cancer treatment.
