This award funds comprehensive research into multiscale neurometabolic coupling and age-specific metabolic dysfunction in late-onset Alzheimer's disease. The grant supports the development of computational models and experimental investigations examining the relationship...
- Federal Grant Award Summary The National Institute on Aging awarded a $242,840 Project Grant to The Methodist Hospital Research Institute on September 2, 2025, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866). This five-year award supports a randomized controlled pilot trial investigating virtual reality (VR)-based cognitive stimulation games as a nonpharmacological intervention to prevent delirium in older surgical patients with pre-existing cognitive impairment. The research will deliver three...
- Federal Project Grant Award Summary The National Institute on Aging (NIA), under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866), awarded the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill a Project Grant of $843,404 effective September 15, 2025, through August 31, 2030. The award funds GOC ADVANCE (Goals of Care—Addressing Variation for Alzheimer's Disease Nursing Home Care at End of Life), a clinical trial designed to improve communication and treatment decision-making for individuals with late-stage...
- Federal Grant Award Summary The University of Pittsburgh received a $428,123 Project Grant from the National Institute on Aging under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) effective February 1, 2026 through January 31, 2028. This research award supports investigation into suppressing aging-associated increases in GATA Binding Protein 4 (GATA4) levels to rejuvenate aged chondrocytes. The project addresses a critical knowledge gap regarding the mechanisms through which aging leads to...
- This federal Project Grant award of $2,358,537.00 from the National Institute on Aging (CFDA 93.866 - Aging Research) supports a research project titled "Epigenetic Aging, Cognitive Function and Exercise in Older Adults" at the University of Pittsburgh. The project aims to investigate the impact of exercise on epigenetic aging and its relationship to cognitive function, brain health, and Alzheimer's disease biomarkers in non-cognitively impaired older adults. The award period runs from...
- Federal Grant Award Summary The National Institute on Aging awarded the University of Michigan $422,319 under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to develop and test implementation strategies for an adapted Community Care Transition Initiative targeting rural older adults with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) and their care partners. The two-year project (September 15, 2025–September 14, 2027) will deliver a pharmacist-led, community-based care transition program that...
- Federal Project Grant Award Summary The National Institute on Aging awarded a $3.1 million Project Grant under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to the University of Pittsburgh to conduct biomedical research on immune response mechanisms related to persistent DNA damage in aging. The four-year research initiative, which commenced September 1, 2025 and concludes August 31, 2029, focuses on investigating the link between persistent DNA damage and NLRP12 (NOD-Like Receptor 12) expression...
- Federal Grant Award Summary Braincheck, Inc. received a $497,782 Project Grant from the National Institute on Aging under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) awarded on September 20, 2025, with a completion date of September 19, 2026. The grant funds development of BrainCheck eConsult, a secure digital platform designed to facilitate asynchronous consultations between primary care providers (PCPs) and dementia specialists. The platform will integrate with BrainCheck's existing cognitive...
The University of Pittsburgh received a $453,932 Project Grant from the National Institute on Aging under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) effective February 1, 2026, through January 31, 2028. The award supports the development and pilot testing of a narrative video game intervention designed to improve advance care planning (ACP) among individuals at elevated risk for dementia and their care partners. The intervention addresses two cognitive biases that impede effective ACP: affective forecasting biases (inaccurate predictions of future emotional states) and representativeness biases (poor understanding of disease trajectory). The video game provides experiential insight into how individuals adapt to the cognitive and functional limitations of dementia and clarifies the progression pathway of the disease. The funded research will conduct a pilot randomized controlled trial enrolling 60 dyads (individuals at risk and their care partners) to evaluate the feasibility and fidelity of the intervention delivery. The project will assess intervention acceptability, receipt fidelity, and enactment fidelity through comparison with an active control condition. Deliverables include the developed narrative video game intervention, feasibility and acceptability data, and evidence regarding the intervention's effectiveness in reducing decisional biases in advance care planning for dementia-affected populations. The research will be conducted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.Federal Grant Award Summary
