The Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture awarded a $399,784 Food Safety Outreach Program (CFDA 10.328) project grant to the Georgia Tech Research Corporation, also known as the Office of Sponsored Programs, to develop and deliver a customized training program for small food producers, especially those that are minority, women-owned, or in underserved communities in Georgia. The project will create a six-day interactive workshop series utilizing a cohort model, supplemented by quarterly webinars and individualized coaching support, to ensure participants develop FSMA-compliant food safety plans. The training will leverage existing partnerships and forge new state-wide collaborations to reach the target population. Evaluation activities including pre- and post-tests, class surveys, and a long-term economic impact assessment will be conducted. Training materials, anonymized student data, and project learnings will be shared with NIFA and fellow FSOP project directors.
