About this opportunity
The Long Beach Public Utilities Department is requesting quotations for steel and related metals, including steel pipe, stainless steel tubing, aluminum products, structural shapes, and sheet materials across 72 line items, with quotations due October 15, 2026 at 11:00 AM and questions due October 6, 2026 at 11:00 AM.
A 10 percent local-vendor price preference applies to Long Beach-based businesses that hold a current city business license and seller's permit, with a maximum preference cost not exceeding $50,000. The preference applies for evaluation only and does not restrict eligibility to non-local vendors.
The scope comprises unit pricing on steel pipe (3/4 inch to 20 inches diameter), stainless steel and copper sheets, structural angles and channels, rounds, squares, strips, flats, expanded metal, floor plates, and related items. All materials must be new, unused, domestically made, and comply with applicable ASTM or API specifications. Delivery is required within five business days of order placement to either the Water Warehouse at 1841 E. 33rd Street or the Gas Warehouse at 2400 E. Spring Street, Long Beach, on an FOB destination basis during standard business hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–2:30 PM). There are no minimum orders.
The contract term is one year with potential extension for two additional one-year periods by mutual agreement. Unit pricing and percentage discounts for unlisted items must be firm for the entire contract year; price increases or discount decreases are not acceptable and may result in contract termination. Quotes must remain valid for 90 days. Awarded contractors must obtain a Long Beach business license prior to contract execution and submit certificates of insurance including comprehensive general liability ($1 million combined single limit), automobile liability ($500,000), and workers' compensation coverage. Payment is made within 30 days of invoice receipt following delivery and LBPUD acceptance.
Bidders must submit quotations electronically through the Long Beach Buys portal. Answers to questions will be posted by October 8, 2026 at 3:00 PM.
