About this opportunity

NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center issued a Request for Interest (RFI) on January 15, 2026, seeking qualified public and private entities to partner with the agency for the development of Discovery Park, a 45-acre technology park located at the Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF) in New Orleans, Louisiana. The MAF campus encompasses 830 acres of government-owned land and currently hosts more than 24 federal, state, academic, and commercial tenants with approximately 2,600 employees. NASA manages the facility under a Federal City model and operates it as the agency's primary manufacturing hub for both government and commercial customers. This RFI represents an opportunity for industry partners to participate in the development and long-term operation of a multi-use, multi-tenant technology park designed to advance space exploration and commercial innovation.

The primary objective of this solicitation is to identify qualified firms capable of financing, developing, marketing, leasing, and maintaining Discovery Park in whole or in part through an Enhanced Use Lease (EUL) arrangement. Key deadlines include an Industry Day scheduled for February 26, 2026, with intent-to-attend required by February 13, 2026; the RFI closing date was originally March 16, 2026, but has been extended to April 2, 2026, with all questions requiring submission prior to the closing date. Eligible participants are public and private entities capable of leading long-term operations that support private sector participation in space exploration, commercial space transportation, and technology development. NASA will retain final approval authority over all subtenant leases to ensure compatibility with existing facility operations and will subsequently issue an Announcement for Proposals (AFP) following the RFI evaluation period, with tenant approval decisions typically occurring 4-6 weeks after the AFP closes.

Update #2 · Latest ·

The purpose of this Request For Interest (RFI) is to seek information and formal statements of interest from public and private entities to partner with NASA for the development of land to support a self-contained multi-use, multi-tenant technology park located at the Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF) in New Orleans, LA.

MAF is located on 830 acres of U.S. Government-owned land. MAF is home to more than 24 Federal, State, Academic and Commercial tenants with a growing workforce of approximately 2,600 people.
The center is managed by NASA via the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) under a Federal City model and serves as the Agency’s primary manufacturing hub for both Government and commercial customers.
MAF recently completed an assessment to determine the most readily developable land for a technology park targeting approximately 45 acres within the MAF campus. These 45 acres, named Discovery Park, is located on the northern edge of the campus to allow options for developable sites both inside and outside the security perimeter. NASA seeks interest from industry to develop the 45-acre Discovery Park in whole or in part. This interest should be from qualified firms in leading to long-term operation of Discovery Park, which NASA has established to enable and grow private sector participation in space exploration, support commercial space transportation, promote commercial development of technologies for application in space and on earth, and support the missions of tenants located at MAF.

Although the primary focus will be on the 45-acre Discovery Park, NASA will also consider interest in other areas on MAF for development.
