About this opportunity

The Department of Energy Office of Science is seeking a contractor to fabricate and install shielded transports for X-ray beam delivery at the Advanced Photon Source (APS) located at Argonne National Laboratory. Specifically, the project involves designing, fabricating, and installing transport structures to bridge a 6-meter gap between shielded experimental enclosures at Beamline 34-ID. The solicitation (RFP No. 5-B157-P-00060-00) will be evaluated on a best-value basis with fixed pricing, requiring contractors to modify existing transport sections, create support pedestals, and design interfaces between enclosures. Key dates include a virtual pre-proposal meeting on December 18, 2024, and a proposal submission deadline of January 10, 2025, with an estimated contract award date of January 31, 2025. The contract will require compliance with Davis-Bacon wage standards and Buy American requirements for construction materials.

The contract is not designated as a small business set-aside, with a size standard of $45 million in annual receipts under NAICS category 236220 for Commercial and Institutional Building Construction. The work must be completed by April 30, 2025, and will be performed at the Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, IL. Contractors will need to provide a Payment Bond for contracts exceeding $35,000 and a Performance Bond for contracts over $150,000. While specific award value is not explicitly stated, the complexity of the project involving precision X-ray beam transport infrastructure suggests significant technical expertise will be required. Interested vendors must request password access to the detailed solicitation documents by contacting Procurement Official Robert Kman via email at kman@anl.gov, with all proposal materials to be submitted through a secure Box link provided in the solicitation.

Notice text

The work consist of fabrication and installation of shielded transport and support structures. Synchrotron beamlines at the Advanced Photon Source (APS) transport hard X-ray beams between shielded experimental enclosures by use of shielded transports. This work will involve the design, offsite fabrication, shipping and installation of shielded transports to bridge the approximately 6 m gap between enclosures at beamline 34-ID at the Advanced Photon Source.

All documents are in this paswword protected BOX folder. To obtain the password please email the Procurement Official Robert Kman (kman@anl.gov) for access.
