About this opportunity

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), specifically the Hershel "Woody" Williams VAMC located in Huntington, WV, has issued a Special Notice of Intent to Sole Source a contract for medical stents. The notice pertains to a procurement under Simplified Acquisition Procedures using the authority of FAR Part 13.106-1(b), with CORDIS US CORP identified as the sole proposed vendor. The contract opportunity falls under NAICS code 339112 for Surgical and Medical Instrument Manufacturing and focuses on procuring 16 specific SMART CONTROL stent models with unique catalog numbers. The VA has determined that CORDIS US CORP is the only responsible source capable of meeting their medical stent requirements. The solicitation is for a firm fixed price contract with four potential option periods.

The primary objective of this Special Notice is to announce the VA's intention to negotiate a sole source contract for medical stents directly with CORDIS US CORP. Potential contractors who wish to challenge this sole source determination must provide clear and convincing evidence that competition would be advantageous to the government. All responses must be submitted by 10:00 am Eastern Time on May 19, 2025, and should be directed to Contracting Officer Ryan Singletary via email. The notice explicitly states that this is not a competitive solicitation or request for offers, and no solicitation package is currently available. Interested parties are required to demonstrate how they could provide a more beneficial competitive alternative to the proposed sole source arrangement. The VA's position is that only the proposed candidate possesses the necessary capabilities to successfully meet the medical stent requirements for the VA medical center.
