RESPONSES TO QUESTIONS FROM BIDDERS

FOR BUFFALO CDF 4 REPAIR

SOLCITATION NO. W912P4-10-R-0005

1. Can the upper portions of the type B stone be filled from the surface (with something like an 8” slump mix) by placing a hose between the voids in the armor stone or the belly of the sheets before any grout holes are drilled?

RESPONSE: Method of placing grout is up to contractor. Method needs to fill minimum required area as shown on the drawings with grout.

2. The test section if grouted properly will be one solid mass. If an excavator cannot deconstruct the test section fully are we expected to us a hoe ram to break it apart?

RESPONSE: A hoe ram is not required to deconstruct the test section.

3. Section 31 32 23.00 02 Part 3.2 Backfilling Hole In Armor Stone. The armor stone has several existing holes. Are we expected to backfill the existing holes with grout or does it only require the drilled grout hole be backfilled?

RESPONSE: Only the holes drilled in the armor stone by the contractor need to be filled with grout.

4. Section 31 32 23.00 02 Part 3.5.2.4 Equipment Arrangement and Operation. This talks about providing a continuous circulation of grout with a valve and a grout return line. If other system setups are outlined in our grouting plan for the different mix designs will we be required to maintain this circulation system as outlined?

RESPONSE: Paragraph 3.5.2.4 is deleted in its entirety from the contract specifications.

5. Section 31 32 23.00 02 Part 3.6 Post - Grouting Coring. You require 80% recovery for payment. If a portion of the hole is not grout able to achieve 80% recovery will adjustments be made for that portion of the hole?

RESPONSE: The specification will be amended to state: "If the Contractor can demonstrate that the Type F Filter Slag layer cannot be grouted due to the fineness of the existing materials, the 80% recovery length will be adjusted to only include the actual depth of existing materials grouted as approved by the Contracting Officer."

6. Is it possible to mobilize and construct the grout test sections/structures prior to the July 1st Anticipated Start Date at some location in the CDF? We would propose to do this in an area that would not interfere with tern activity.

RESPONSE: See Section 01 35 13, paragraph 1.2.1 b.
