1.04 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. All metal framed storefront assemblies shall comply with DOD (Department of Defense)
Minimum Anti-terrorism Standards for Buildings, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) 47-010-01.
B. Windows must meet the minimum antiterrorism performance as specified in the paragraphs below. Conformance to the performance requirements must be validated by one of the following methods.
1. Computational Design Analysis Method - Window frames, mullions, and sashes must be designed to the criteria listed herein. Computational design analysis must include calculations verifying the structural performance of each window proposed for use, under the given static equivalent loads. Aluminum window framing members must restrict deflections of the edges of glazing they support to L/60 under two times (2X) the glazing resistance per the requirements of ASTM F2248 and ASTM E1300. L denotes the length of the glazing supported edge. (L is to be based on edge length of glazing in frame and not on the distance between anchors that fasten frame to the structure.) 08 4313 must be anchored to the supporting structure with anchors designed to resist two times (2X) the glazing resistance in accordance with ASTM F2248 and ASTM E1300
a. Refer to ATFP Design Load table for information.
2. Alternate Dynamic Design Analysis Method - As an alternative to the static equivalent load design approach described above, window framing members, anchors, and glazing may be designed using a dynamic analysis to prove the window system will provide performance equivalent to or better than a very low hazard rating in accordance with ASTM F1642 associated with the applicable low level of protection for the project.
a. Refer to ATFP Design Load table for information.
C. Movement: Accommodate movement between storefront and perimeter framing and deflection of lintel, without damage to components or deterioration of seals.
D. Air Infiltration: Limit air infiltration through assembly to 0.06 cu ft/min/sq ft of wall area, measured at a reference differential pressure across assembly of 1.57 psf as measured in accordance with ASTM E 283.
E. Water Leakage: None, when measured in accordance with ASTM E 331 with a test pressure difference of 2.86 lbf/sq ft.
F. System Internal Drainage: Drain to the exterior by means of a weep drainage network any water entering joints, condensation occurring in glazing channel, and migrating moisture occurring within system.
G. Expansion/Contraction: Provide for expansion and contraction within system components caused by cycling temperature range of 170 degrees F over a 12 hour period without causing detrimental effect to system components, anchorages, and other building elements.
H. Interior vestibule aluminum framing and door need not be thermally broken or meet the other performance criteria for exterior weather exposed application. Interior profile sections may be 2 1/4" x 4 1/2" suited for 1/4" glazing.
1.05 SUBMITTALS
A. See Section 01 3000 - Administrative Requirements, for submittal procedures.
B. See Section 01 3516 - LEED Submittal Forms. Submit all applicable LEED information for each product specified herein (separate form for each product).
C. See Section 01 6116 - Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Content Restrictions. Submit LEED form for each adhesive or sealant used with work in this section.
D. Product Data: Provide component dimensions, describe components within assembly, anchorage and fasteners, glass and infill, internal drainage details .
E. Shop Drawings: Indicate system dimensions, framed opening requirements and tolerances, affected related Work, expansion and contraction joint location and details, and field welding required.
F. Design Data: Design Data: Submit design analysis with calculations showing that the design of each different size and type of aluminum window unit and it's anchorage to the structure meets the minimum antiterrorism standards required by "Minimum Antiterrorism Performance", unless conformance is demonstrated by Standard Airblast Test results. Calculations verifying the structural performance of each window proposed for use, under the given loads, must be prepared and signed by a registered Professional Engineer. The window components and anchorage devices to the structure, as determined by the design analysis, must be reflected in the shop drawings.
G. Test Reports: Prior to submitting shop drawings or starting fabrication, submit test report(s) by independent testing agency showing compliance with performance requirements in excess of those prescribed by specified grade.
1. Standard Airblast Test: For Minimum Antiterrorism windows, in lieu of a Design Analysis, results of airblast testing, whether by arena test or shocktube, must be included in a test report, providing information in accordance with ASTM F1642, as prepared by the independent testing agency performing the test. The test results must demonstrate the

08 4313 ability of each window proposed for use to withstand the airblast loading parameters and achieve the hazard level rating specified in paragraph "Standard Airblast Test Method".
H. Warranty: Submit manufacturer warranty and ensure forms have been completed in Government's name and registered with manufacturer.
1.06 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Manufacturer and Installer Qualifications: Company specializing in manufacturing aluminum glazing systems with minimum three years of documented experience.
1.07 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Handle products of this section in accordance with AAMA CW-10.
B. Protect finished aluminum surfaces with wrapping. Do not use adhesive papers or sprayed coatings that bond to aluminum when exposed to sunlight or weather.
1.08 FIELD CONDITIONS
A. Do not install sealants when ambient temperature is less than 40 degrees F. Maintain this minimum temperature during and 48 hours after installation.
1.09 WARRANTY
A. See Section 01 7800 - Closeout Submittals, for additional warranty requirements.
B. Correct defective Work within a five year period after the Date of Substantial Completion.
C. Provide five year manufacturer warranty against failure of glass seal on insulating glass units, including interpane dusting or misting. Include provision for replacement of failed units.
D. Provide five year manufacturer warranty against excessive degradation of exterior finish.
Include provision for replacement of units with excessive fading, chalking, or flaking.

2.02 STOREFRONT
A. Aluminum-Framed Storefront: Factory fabricated, factory finished aluminum framing members with infill, and related flashings, anchorage and attachment devices.
1. Glazing Position: Centered (front to back).
2. Finish: Class I color anodized.
a. Factory finish all surfaces that will be exposed in completed assemblies.
3. Finish Color: Dark bronze.
4. Fabrication: Joints and corners flush, hairline, and weatherproof, accurately fitted and secured; prepared to receive anchors and hardware; fasteners and attachments concealed from view; reinforced as required for imposed loads.
5. Construction: Eliminate noises caused by wind and thermal movement, prevent vibration harmonics, and prevent "stack effect" in internal spaces.
6. System Internal Drainage: Drain to the exterior by means of a weep drainage network any water entering joints, condensation occurring in glazing channel, and migrating moisture occurring within system.

8. Movement: Allow for movement between storefront and adjacent construction, without damage to components or deterioration of seals.
9. Perimeter Clearance: Minimize space between framing members and adjacent construction while allowing expected movement.
B. Performance Requirements:
1. Wind Loads: Design and size components to withstand the specified load requirements without damage or permanent set, when tested in accordance with ASTM E330/E330M, using loads 1.5 times the design wind loads and 10 second duration of maximum load.
a. Member Deflection: Limit member deflection to flexure limit of glass in any direction, with full recovery of glazing materials.
2. Water Penetration Resistance: No uncontrolled water on interior face, when tested in accordance with ASTM E331 at pressure differential of 8 psf.
3. Air Leakage: Maximum of 0.06 cu ft/min sq ft of wall area, when tested in accordance with
ASTM E283 at 6.27 psf pressure differential across assembly.
4. Condensation Resistance Factor of Framing: 50, minimum, measured in accordance with
AAMA 1503.
2.03 COMPONENTS
A. Aluminum Framing Members: Tubular aluminum sections, thermally broken with interior section insulated from exterior, drainage holes and internal weep drainage system.
1. Glazing stops: Flush.
2. Cross-Section: 2x5 inch nominal dimension.
B. Glazing: As specified in Section 08 8000.
C. Infill Panels: Insulated, aluminum sheet face and back, with edges formed to fit glazing channel and sealed.
1. Finish: Same as storefront.
D. Swing Doors: Glazed aluminum.
1. Thickness: 1-3/4 inches.
2. Finish: Same as storefront.
2.04 MATERIALS
A. Extruded Aluminum: ASTM B221 (ASTM B221M).
B. Sheet Aluminum: ASTM B209 (ASTM B209M).
C. Fasteners: Stainless steel.
D. Glazing Gaskets: Type to suit application to achieve weather, moisture, and air infiltration requirements.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 EXAMINATION
A. Verify dimensions, tolerances, and method of attachment with other work.
B. Verify that wall openings and adjoining air and vapor seal materials are ready to receive work of this section.
3.02 INSTALLATION
A. Install wall system in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
B. Attach to structure to permit sufficient adjustment to accommodate construction tolerances and other irregularities.
C. Provide alignment attachments and shims to permanently fasten system to building structure.
D. Align assembly plumb and level, free of warp or twist. Maintain assembly dimensional tolerances, aligning with adjacent work.
E. Provide thermal isolation where components penetrate or disrupt building insulation.
F. Install sill flashings. Turn up ends and edges; seal to adjacent work to form water tight dam.

G. Where fasteners penetrate sill flashings, make watertight by seating and sealing fastener heads to sill flashing.
H. Pack fibrous insulation in shim spaces at perimeter of assembly to maintain continuity of thermal barrier.
I. Touch-up minor damage to factory applied finish; replace components that cannot be satisfactorily repaired.
3.03 TOLERANCES
A. Maximum Variation from Plumb: 0.06 inches every 3 ft non-cumulative or 1/16 inches per 10 ft, whichever is less.
B. Maximum Misalignment of Two Adjoining Members Abutting in Plane: 1/32 inch.
3.04 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. See Section 01 4000 - Quality Requirements, for independent testing and inspection requirements. Inspection will monitor quality of installation and glazing.

A. Remove protective material from pre-finished aluminum surfaces.

1.04 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. Air Infiltration: Air infiltration must not exceed the amount established by AAMA/WDMA/CSA
101/I.S.2/A440 for each window type.
B. Water Penetration: Water penetration must not exceed the amount established by
AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440 for each window type.
C. Thermal Performance: Thermal transmittance for thermally broken aluminum windows with insulating glass shall not exceed a U-factor of 0.75 Btu/hr-ft2-F determined according to NFRC 100, and a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.40 Btu/hr-ft2-F determined according to
NFRC 200.
D. Structural Performance
1. Structural test pressures on window units must be for positive load (inward) and negative load (outward). After testing, there will be no glass breakage, permanent damage to fasteners, hardware parts, support arms or actuating mechanisms or any other damage which could cause window to be inoperable. There must be no permanent deformation of any main frame, sash or ventilator member in excess of the requirements established by AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440 for the window types and classification specified in this section.
E. Minimum Antiterrorism Performance

C. Product Data: Provide component dimensions.
D. Shop Drawings: Indicate opening dimensions, elevations of different types, framed opening tolerances, method for achieving air and vapor barrier seal to adjacent construction, anchorage locations, , and installation requirements, types and locations of operating hardware, mullion details, weatherstripping details, screen details including method of attachement
E. Design Data: Submit design analysis with calculations showing that the design of each different size and type of aluminum window unit and it's anchorage to the structure meets the minimum antiterrorism standards required by "Minimum Antiterrorism Performance", unless conformance is demonstrated by Standard Airblast Test results. Calculations verifying the structural performance of each window proposed for use, under the given loads, must be prepared and signed by a registered Professional Engineer. The window components and anchorage devices to the structure, as determined by the design analysis, must be reflected in the shop drawings.
F. Test Reports: Prior to submitting shop drawings or starting fabrication, submit test report(s) by independent testing agency showing compliance with performance requirements in excess of those prescribed by specified grade.
1. Standard Airblast Test: For Minimum Antiterrorism windows, in lieu of a Design Analysis, results of airblast testing, whether by arena test or shocktube, must be included in a test report, providing information in accordance with ASTM F1642, as prepared by the independent testing agency performing the test. The test results must demonstrate the ability of each window proposed for use to withstand the airblast loading parameters and achieve the hazard level rating specified in paragraph "Standard Airblast Test Method".
G. Certificates: Certificates stating that the aluminum windows are AAMA certified conforming to requirements of this section. Labels or markings permanently affixed to the window will be accepted in lieu of certificates. Product ratings determined using NFRC 100 and NFRC 200 shall be authorized for certification and properly labeled by the manufacturer.
H. Manufacturer's Installation Instructions: Include complete preparation, installation, and cleaning requirements.
1.06 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Manufacturer and Installer Qualifications: Company specializing in fabrication of commercial aluminum windows of types required, with not fewer than three years of experience.
1.07 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Comply with requirements of AAMA CW-10.
B. Protect finished surfaces with wrapping paper or strippable coating during installation. Do not use adhesive papers or sprayed coatings that bond to substrate when exposed to sunlight or weather.
1.08 FIELD CONDITIONS
A. Do not install sealants when ambient temperature is less than 40 degrees F.
B. Maintain this minimum temperature during and 24 hours after installation of sealants.
1.09 WARRANTY
A. See Section 01 7800 - Closeout Submittals, for additional warranty requirements.
B. Provide five year manufacturer warranty against failure of glass seal on insulating glass units, including interpane dusting or misting. Include provision for replacement of failed units.

2.02 WINDOWS
A. Aluminum Windows: Extruded aluminum frame and sash, factory fabricated, factory finished, with operating hardware, related flashings, and anchorage and attachment devices.
1. Frame Depth: 4-1/2 inch..
2. Provide units factory glazed.
3. Fabrication: Joints and corners flush, hairline, and weatherproof, accurately fitted and secured; prepared to receive anchors; fasteners and attachments concealed from view;
reinforced as required for operating hardware and imposed loads.
4. Perimeter Clearance: Minimize space between framing members and adjacent construction while allowing expected movement.
5. Movement: Accommodate movement between window and perimeter framing and deflection of lintel, without damage to components or deterioration of seals.

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 EXAMINATION
A. Verify that wall openings and adjoining air and vapor seal materials are ready to receive aluminum windows.
3.02 INSTALLATION
A. Install windows in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
B. Install window assembly in accordance with AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440.
C. Attach window frame and shims to perimeter opening to accommodate construction tolerances and other irregularities.
D. Align window plumb and level, free of warp or twist. Maintain dimensional tolerances and alignment with adjacent work.

E. Install sill and sill end angles.
F. Provide thermal isolation where components penetrate or disrupt building insulation. Pack fibrous insulation in shim spaces at perimeter of assembly to maintain continuity of thermal barrier.
G. Install glass and infill panels in accordance with requirements specified in Section 08 8000.
3.03 TOLERANCES
A. Maximum Variation from Level or Plumb: 1/16 inches every 3 ft non-cumulative or 1/8 inches per 10 ft, whichever is less.
3.04 ADJUSTING
A. Adjust hardware for smooth operation and secure weathertight closure.
3.05 CLEANING
A. Remove protective material from factory finished aluminum surfaces.
