SECTION 01 2200

UNIT PRICES

PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 SECTION INCLUDES

A. List of unit prices, for use in preparing Bids.

1.02 COSTS INCLUDED

A. Unit Prices included on the Bid Form shall include full compensation for all required labor, products, tools, equipment, plant, transportation, services and incidentals; erection, application or installation of an item of the Work; overhead and profit.

1.03 UNIT QUANTITIES SPECIFIED

A. Quantities indicated in the Bid Form are for bidding and contract purposes only. Quantities and measurements of actual Work will determine the payment amount.

1.04 MEASUREMENT OF QUANTITIES

A. Measurement methods delineated in the individual specification sections complement the criteria of this section. In the event of conflict, the requirements of the individual specification section govern.

B. Take all measurements and compute quantities. Measurements and quantities will be verified by COR.

C. Assist by providing necessary equipment, workers, and survey personnel as required.

D. Measurement Devices:

1. Weigh Scales: Inspected, tested and certified by the applicable state Weights and Measures department within the past year.

2. Platform Scales: Of sufficient size and capacity to accommodate the conveying vehicle.

3. Metering Devices: Inspected, tested and certified by the applicable state department within the past year.

E. Measurement by Weight: scale weights provided by truck tickets F. Measurement by Volume: Measured by cubic dimension using mean length, width and height or thickness, or by conversion from weight to volume using density conversion factor as indicted in applicable spec section

G. Measurement by Area: Measured by square dimension using mean length and width or radius.

H. Linear Measurement: Measured by linear dimension, at the item centerline or mean chord.

I. Stipulated Price Measurement: Items measured by weight, volume, area, or linear means or combination, as appropriate, as a completed item or unit of the Work.

J. Perform surveys required to determine quantities, including control surveys to establish measurement reference lines. Notify COR prior to starting work.

K. Contractor's Engineer Responsibilities: Sign surveyor's field notes or keep duplicate field notes, calculate and certify quantities for payment purposes.

1.05 PAYMENT

A. Payment for Work governed by unit prices will be made on the basis of the actual measurements and quantities of Work that is incorporated in or made necessary by the Work and accepted by the COR, multiplied by the unit price.

B. Payment will not be made for any of the following:

1. Products wasted or disposed of in a manner that is not acceptable.

2. Products determined as unacceptable before or after placement.

3. Products not completely unloaded from the transporting vehicle.

4. Products placed beyond the lines and levels of the required Work.

5. Products remaining on hand after completion of the Work.

6. Loading, hauling, and disposing of rejected Products.

1.06 DEFECT ASSESSMENT

A. Replace Work, or portions of the Work, not conforming to specified requirements.

B. If, in the opinion of COR, it is not practical to remove and replace the Work, COR will direct one of the following remedies:

1. The defective Work may remain, but the unit price will be adjusted to a new unit price at the discretion of COR.

2. The defective Work will be partially repaired to the instructions of the COR, and the unit price will be adjusted to a new unit price at the discretion of COR.

C. The individual specification sections may modify these options or may identify a specific formula or percentage price reduction.

D. The authority of COR to assess the defect and identify payment adjustment is final.

1.07 SCHEDULE OF UNIT PRICES

A. Item: Unit Price #1: Soil Excavation and haul off.; Refer to Drawings and Section 31 2316

Excavation. Assume 16,600 CY. Unit price shall include excavation, temporary stockpiling on the site, loading, hauling and disposal of the excavated materials in an approved offsite disposal location in accordance with these specifications.

B. Item: Unit Price #2: Granular Fill Materials, which includes both granular fill and structural fill;

Refer to Drawings and Section 31 2323 Fill. Assume 15,500 CY of Granular Fill materials. Unit price shall include loading and hauling of Granular Fill Materials to the project site and temporary stockpiling on the site as well as placement and compaction in accordance with these specifications.

2.03 MATERIALS

3. Weatherstripping/smoke strip: Moisture and rot proof, resilient type, located at jamb edges, bottom of curtain, and where curtain enters hood enclosure of all doors.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 EXAMINATION

A. Verify that opening sizes, tolerances and conditions are acceptable.

3.02 INSTALLATION

A. Install units in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

B. In addition, install fire-rated doors in accordance with NFPA 80.

C. Use anchorage devices to securely fasten assembly to wall construction and building framing without distortion or stress.

D. Securely and rigidly brace components suspended from structure. Secure guides to structural members only.

E. Fit and align assembly including hardware; level and plumb, to provide smooth operation.

F. Coordinate installation of electrical service with Section 26 2717.

G. Complete wiring from disconnect to unit components.

H. Complete wiring from fire alarm system.

3.03 TOLERANCES

A. Maintain dimensional tolerances and alignment with adjacent work.

B. Maximum Variation From Plumb: 1/16 inch.

C. Maximum Variation From Level: 1/16 inch.

D. Longitudinal or Diagonal Warp: Plus or minus 1/8 inch per 10 ft straight edge.

PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 SECTION INCLUDES

A. Excavating for footings, slabs-on-grade, paving, and site structures.

1.02 RELATED REQUIREMENTS

1.03 PROJECT CONDITIONS

B. Submit truck scale tickets for all excavated soil materials hauled and disposed of offsite.

Conversion factors used for volumes shall be:

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 EXAMINATION

A. Verify that survey bench mark and intended elevations for the work are as indicated.

3.02 PREPARATION

A. Identify required lines, levels, contours, and datum locations.

B. Contractor shall contact Gopher 1-Call and obtain a Base Digging Permit prior to any excavation on the project site.

C. See Section 31 2200 for additional requirements.

3.03 EXCAVATING

A. Excavate to accommodate new structures and construction operations.

1. Excavate to remove all previously disturbed (fill) soils from planned building footprint area and including any required lateral over-sizing of the excavation as directed by the project geotechnical engineer.

2. Excavate to Elevation 1415.0 throughout the building footprint area including a lateral over-sizing zone (widening) of excavation extending out horizontally one foot from the outside bottom edge of the footing perimeter for each foot the excavation extends below the bottom-of-footing elevations.

B. Following the excavation described above, a geotechnical engineer will determine if all unsuitable soils have been removed. If unsuitable soil remains, over-excavating will be required to remove the remaining unsuitable soils.

1. Unauthorized over-excavations by the Contractor shall be back-filled in accordance with Section 31 2323 by the Contractor at no additional cost to the Government.

C. Underpin adjacent structures that could be damaged by excavating work D. Notify Engineer of unexpected subsurface conditions and discontinue affected Work in area until notified to resume work.

E. Slope banks of excavations deeper than 4 feet to angle of repose or less until shored.

F. Do not interfere with 45 degree bearing splay of foundations.

G. Hand trim excavations. Remove loose matter.

H. Correct areas that are over-excavated and load-bearing surfaces that are disturbed; see

Section 31 2323.

I. Grade top perimeter of excavation to prevent surface water from draining into excavation.

J. Remove excavated material that is unsuitable for re-use from site.

K. Stockpile excavated material to be re-used in area designated on site in accordance with

Section 31 2200.

L. Remove excess excavated material from site.

3.04 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A. See Section 01 4000 - Quality Requirements, for general requirements for field inspection and testing.

B. Provide for visual inspection of load-bearing excavated surfaces before placement of foundations, or placement of sub-base materials.

3.05 PROTECTION

A. Prevent displacement of banks and keep loose soil from falling into excavation; maintain soil stability.

B. Protect bottom of excavations and soil adjacent to and beneath foundation from freezing.

C. Keep excavations free of water. Provide dewatering by approved means. Water pumped or otherwise discharged from the site during construction shall be directed towards sediment containing devices prior to discharge.

PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 SECTION INCLUDES

A. Filling, backfilling, and compacting for building volume below grade and all in non-airfield pavement areas.

B. Filling holes, pits, and excavations generated as a result of removal (demolition) operations.

1.02 RELATED REQUIREMENTS

1.04 SUBMITTALS

A. See Section 01 3000 - Administrative Requirements, for submittal procedures.

B. Samples: 10 pounds sample of each type of fill; submit in air-tight containers to testing laboratory.

C. Materials Sources: Submit name of imported materials source.

D. Fill Composition Test Reports: Results of laboratory tests on proposed and actual materials used, including manufactured fill.

E. Compaction Density Test Reports.

F. Submit truck scale tickets for Granular Fill materials and Structural Fill materials imported to the project site. Conversion factors used for volumes shall be:

1 cubic yard (LV) = 1.4 tons and 1 cubic yard (CV) = 1.8 tons

1.05 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Provide sufficient quantities of fill to meet project schedule and requirements. When necessary, store materials on site in advance of need.

B. When fill materials need to be stored on site, locate stockpiles where indicated.

1. Separate differing materials with dividers or stockpile separately to prevent intermixing.

2. Prevent contamination.

3. Protect stockpiles from erosion and deterioration of materials.

C. Verify that survey bench marks and intended elevations for the Work are as indicated.

1.06 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Perform work in accordance with Mn/DOT Standard Specification 2105. All references to measurement and payment in the Standard Specifications shall not apply.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.01 FILL MATERIALS

A. General Fill: Non-organic select compactible Subsoil excavated on-site or salvaged excavated soils from on-site and/or MNDOT 2105.2B2 Common Borrow. When on-site general fills are exhausted or found to be unsuitable for use due to moisture content, organics, or oversized rock, the Contractor shall provide MNDOT Common Borrow as necessary to complete the work at no additional cost to the Owner. General Fill excavated and salvaged on site shall meet the following requirements.

1. Graded.

2. Free of lumps larger than 3 inches, rocks larger than 2 inches, and organic debris.

3. General Fill salvaged from on-site shall be selected, separated and protected to manage the soils moisture content. The Contractor shall dry or moisture condition the soil as necessary in order to achieve the required compaction densities.

B. Structural Fill (NFS): Imported borrow.

1. Graded in accordance with ASTM C 136, within the following limits:

a. 1 inch sieve: 100 percent passing.

b. No. 4 sieve: 60 to 100 percent passing.

c. No. 40: 0 to 40 percent passing.

d. No. 200: 0 to 5 percent passing.

C. Granular Fill: imported materials conforming to MNDOT 3149.2B2 Select Granular Materials, modified so that of the portion passing the 1 inch sieve, not more than 7% by weight shall pass the No. 200 sieve, and no salvaged bituminous or concrete materials are allowed. Maximum particle size shall not exceed 2 inches and no less than 71% shall pass the 3/4 inch sieve.

D. Sand Cover:

1. Imported materials conforming to MNDOT 3149.2K. Sand cover modified such that 7 percent or less passes a No. 200 sieve.

E. Topsoil: Friable loam; imported borrow. Topsoil excavated and salvaged on-site may be used on site provided the topsoil conforms to items 1-3 below. When on-site salvaged topsoils are insufficient to meet the quantities required, Contractor shall import additional topsoil to complete the work.

1. Select.

2. Graded.

3. Free of roots, rocks larger than 1/2 inch, subsoil, debris, large weeds and foreign matter.

4. Acidity range (pH) of 5.5 to 7.5.

5. Containing a minimum of 4 percent and a maximum of 25 percent organic matter.

F. Drainage Fill: conforming to MNDOT 3149.2H Coarse Filter Aggregate.

G. Aggregate Bedding: conforming to MNDOT 3149.2G Aggregate Bedding.

H. Crushed Stone: Crushed washed, free draining aggregate (excluding crushed carbonate quarry rock, crushed concrete and salvaged bituminous mixtures) meeting the following gradation requirements:

1. Graded in accordance with ASTM C 136, within the following limits:

a. 2 inch sieve: 100 percent passing.

b. 3/4 inch sieve: 0 to 5 percent passing.

2. Aggregate Classification: Class A: Crushed quarry or mine traprock (basalt, diabase gabbro, or other related igneous rock types), quartzite, or granite. Other igneous or metamorphic quarry or mine rock may be used only with specific approval of the Engineer.

2.02 SOURCE QUALITY CONTROL

A. See Section 01 4000 - Quality Requirements, for general requirements for testing and analysis of soil material.

B. Where fill materials are specified by reference to a specific standard, testing of samples for compliance will be provided before delivery to site.

C. If tests indicate materials do not meet specified requirements, change material and retest.

D. Provide materials of each type from same source throughout the Work. If source must change than retest at no cost to the government.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 EXAMINATION

A. Verify that survey bench marks and intended elevations for the Work are as indicated.

B. Identify required lines, levels, contours, and datum locations.

C. See Section 31 2200 for additional requirements.

D. Verify subdrainage, dampproofing, or waterproofing installation has been inspected.

E. Verify structural ability of unsupported walls to support imposed loads by the fill.

3.02 PREPARATION

A. Scarify and proof roll subgrade surface to a depth of 6 inches to identify soft spots.

B. Cut out soft areas of subgrade not capable of compaction in place. Backfill with Granular Fill.

C. Subgrade soils shall be approved by Contracting Officer prior to placement of fill soils. Provide notification to Contracting Officer 24 hours in advance of filling operations.

D. Until ready to fill, maintain excavations and prevent loose soil from falling into excavation.

3.03 FILLING

A. Fill to contours and elevations indicated using unfrozen materials.

B. Employ a placement method that does not disturb or damage other work.

C. Systematically fill to allow maximum time for natural settlement. Do not fill over porous, wet, frozen or spongy subgrade surfaces.

D. Maintain optimum moisture content of fill materials to attain required compaction density.

E. Slope grade away from building minimum 2 inches in 10 feet, unless noted otherwise. Make gradual grade changes. Blend slope into level areas.

F. Correct areas that are over-excavated.

1. Under paving, footings, slabs-on-grade and similar construction: Use Granular Fill, flush to required elevation, compacted to 95 percent of maximum Modified Proctor dry density.

2. Other areas: Use General Fill, flush to required elevation, compacted to minimum 90 percent of maximum Modified Proctor dry density.

G. Compaction Density Unless Otherwise Specified or Indicated:

1. Under paving, slabs-on-grade, footings, and similar construction: 95 percent of maximum

Modified Proctor dry density.

D. At Foundation Walls and Footings:

1. Use Granular Fill.

2. Compact each lift to 95 percent of maximum Modified Proctor dry density.

3. Do not backfill against unsupported foundation walls.

E. Under Exterior Paving or similar construction:

1. Use Granular Fill.

2. Compact each lift to 95 percent of maximum Modified Proctor dry density.

F. Over Buried Utility Piping and Conduits in Trenches : See Section 31 2316.13 G. At Vegetated Areas:

1. Use General Fill.

2. Compact to 90 percent of maximum Modified Proctor dry density.

3.05 TOLERANCES

A. Top Surface of General Filling: Plus or minus 1 inch from required elevations.

B. Top Surface of Filling Under Paved Areas: Plus or minus 1 inch from required elevations.

3.06 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A. See Section 01 4000 - Quality Requirements, for general requirements for field inspection and testing.

B. Perform compaction density testing on compacted fill in accordance with ASTM D2922 or ASTM

D3017.

C. Evaluate results in relation to compaction curve determined by testing uncompacted material in accordance with ASTM D 1557 ("modified Proctor").

D. If tests indicate work does not meet specified requirements, remove work, replace and retest.

E. Frequency of Tests: Provide the minimum number of tests as follows, one test minimum.

1. Slabs-On-Grade: One test for every 1000 sq. ft. per 1ft of depth of material placed or fraction thereof.

2. Foundation Walls and Footings: One test for every 25 lin. ft. of wall/footing length and one test under each column footing.

3. Exterior Paving and Similar Construction: One test for every 2500 sq. ft. per 1ft of depth of material placed or fraction thereof.

4. Over Buried Utility Piping, and Conduits in Trenches: See Section 31 2316.13.

5. Vegetated Areas: One test for every 10,000 sq. ft. per 1ft of depth of material placed or fraction thereof.

F. Proof roll compacted fill at surfaces that will be under slabs-on-grade and paving.

3.07 CLEANING

A. Remove unused stockpiled materials, leave area in a clean and neat condition. Grade stockpile area to prevent standing surface water.
