Exhibit A
Epoxy Broadcast Overlay System
2016 Scope of Work
1. Contractor Certification: Submit a letter from the primary materials manufacturer certifying that the installing prime or sub-contractor has been properly trained in the application of the materials being installed and is acceptable to the material manufacturer (IAW CDRL E001). There shall also be records of successful in-service installation performance.
a. Engage an installer who employs only persons trained and approved by the resinous flooring manufacturer for applying resinous flooring systems specified.
b. Engage an installer who is certified in writing by the resinous flooring manufacturer as a factory trained applicator qualified to apply the specified resinous flooring system.
2. Scope of Work Items:
3. Surface Preparation (Concrete Floor): Should be cleaned and prepared to achieve a laitance-free and contaminate-free open textured surface by shot blasting or equivalent mechanical means (CSP-3 to CSP-4 as per ICRI Guidelines) Sweep and vacuum any remaining dirt and dust with a wet/dry vacuum. Removing residual dust will help insure a tenacious bond between the epoxy and the substrate.
4. Expansion Joints / Saw Cuts/ Cracks:
5. Small Cracks: Post shot blasting; treat all cracks with a 2-component, 100% solids, moisture-tolerant, low-viscosity, high-strength, multipurpose, epoxy resin adhesive. It conforms to the current ASTM C-881, Types I, II, and IV, Grade-1, Class C* and AASHTO M-235 specifications. Using the Gravity Feed Method. Mix same product as an Epoxy Mortar for larger spalls and depressions.
6. Large Cracks: Post shot Blasting: Saw Cut at 30º Angle across the Crack every 18”-24” to create Stitch effect. Saw Cut is to be 3/8”Wx1.5”Dx18L” to receive 1/8”Lx3/4”W galvanized steel plate strap. Steel shall be clean and free of oils and any contamination. Steel Straps are to be placed into reservoir and then filled with is a 2-component, 100% solids, moisture-tolerant, low-viscosity, high-strength, multipurpose, epoxy resin adhesive. It conforms to the current ASTM C-881, Types I, II, and IV, Grade-1, Class C* and AASHTO M-235 specifications. Using the Gravity Feed Method. Multiple passes may be required in order to achieve a flush repair. Overfilling is recommended on the final pass to ensure a flush or overfilled repair. The excess resin can be removed by Grinding.
7. Control Joints: For all control joints, create a slotted channel by double saw cutting both sides of the existing joint to create a minimum 1.5” to 2” channel (wide & deep). Following the sawing process to demo out all material and make sure to adequately clean the edges (sides) of the channel to remove any residue. Prime the edges of the channel with 2-component, 100% solids, moisture-tolerant, epoxy resin binder. Epoxy (neat) prior to installation of an epoxy mortar.
8. Fill the channel with an epoxy mortar (This will be a 2-component, 100% solids, moisture-tolerant, epoxy resin binder. It conforms to the current ASTM C-881, Type III, Grade-2, Class-C and AASHTO M-235 specifications. Mixed with #20 or #30 silica sand) and allow to cure for 24 hours. Grind the channel flat prior to proceeding with coating the field with epoxy broadcast application.
9. Moisture Vapor Primer: 2- component, solvent free, low viscosity, epoxy primer should be considered where < 6% mass (pbw-part by weight) is measured on concrete substrate with an Expert type concrete moisture meter. Apply at 10-12 mils (130 s/f per gallon) to a properly prepared substrate.
10. Joint Sealants: Apply A Pourable-Grade Self-Leveling 100% Solids 2-Part Flexible Epoxy 75% elongation, 85 Shore A hardness and 655 PSI tensile strength to the final Saw Cut Joints. Follow BASF Technical Guidelines for application recommendations.
11. Application of Epoxy Wear Surface: Apply 45-50 sf per gallon (32-35 Mils) of 2-component, 100% solids, moisture-tolerant, epoxy resin binder. It conforms to the current ASTM C-881, Type III, Grade-2, Class-C and AASHTO M-235 specifications. (1:1 Mix) spread with a notched squeegee to the properly prepared surface. Continue to overlap the material to insure adequate coverage. Back roll the epoxy with a phenolic core roller to insure the material is smooth and level always maintaining a “wet edge”, immediately apply #20 aggregate with Aggregate Blower to ensure consistent sand broadcast (per gradation chart) with a Mohr’s hardness of 6 or greater to excess (typically 1-1.5 lbs. per sf). After 4 hrs. @ 73º sweep off excess sand.
12. Seal Coat: Apply approximately 75-80 sf per gallon as a seal coat (2-component, 100% solids, moisture-tolerant, epoxy resin binder.) without adding any aggregate. Let the Epoxy cure for 24 hours before subjecting to wheel traffic
13. Clean Saw Cut Joints: Saw cut expansion joints / repair areas. Saw cut and clean out all repair areas and expansion joints. Expansion joints including those that have been treated with epoxy mortar (Section 8) should be saw cut after the application of the Epoxy Wear Surface.
14. Mock-Up: Mock up an area of 10’ x 10’ (100 sf) for the Base Facility Engineer to verify appearance of sand, epoxy joint sealant, and slip resistance. Mock-Up must be approved by the Technical POC prior to work commencing.
