GENERAL SURVEY NOTES:

Lock and Dam 7 Upper Guidewall Pole Sounding Data

The above is not intended to be an accurate representation, it is intended only to provide a general idea of the approximate bottom elevation along the landward edge of the guidewall structure and an approximate distance of 10 feet landward of the guidewall structure.

Procedure used to develop the above information:

- Rxx is the target number entered in the sonar sounding data. The pole soundings are approximately 8 feet ahead of the target location on the boat.

- Two sets of pole soundings were taken per monolith, approximately 8 to 10 feet upstream and downstream of a monolith joint.

- The pole used was an approximate 2” diameter aluminum pole with a rounded wood plug in one end. The pole was hand marked with electrician’s tape at one foot intervals. Measurements were taken at whole and half foot only, visually estimated.

- The same staff person performed all pole soundings

- Staff “felt” for edge of concrete and then moved slightly landward. The rounded end of the pole was lowered until it was determined to be setting on top of the bottom, as determined by feel. This is the depth number, depth below water surface. The staff then exerted upper body weight to push the pole into the bottom until significant resistance was obtained, by feel. This was done to give a general indication of how “firm” the bottom is at that particular location. This is the additional depth and is shown as depth below bottom surface.

- Sonar data was measured at target number, approximately 8 feet upstream of pole sounding, approximately 5 feet landward of the guidewall structure.
