SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Participation of potential offerors in the site meeting is voluntary. You are encouraged to attend but you do so at your own risk. Field conditions present safety risks typical of a sloped levee with limited access and vegetated, eroded river bank in Northern California. Risks include but are not limited to the potential to trip or fall, exposure to sun, and hazards associated with biological resources such as plants (e.g. poison oak), biting or stinging insects, and reptiles.

Use great caution when turning onto and exiting the levee road. Enter only via the northern ramp and exit via the southern ramp, keeping the vehicle facing south at all times. When turning onto the northern ramp, look out for traffic coming around the bend of the county road. Do not cut the sharp turn - execute the turn so as to minimize the change in grade that your vehicle must span. Parallel park on the right side of the levee road, as close to the shaded meeting area as possible. When exiting, stop at the end of the southern ramp in a position that allows you to see both up and down the county road, look in both directions as well as across the road before accelerating, and yield to any pedestrian or vehicular traffic.

Wear:

• sturdy shoes

• long pants

• light weight long sleeve shirt

• sunscreen

Bring:

• hat with brim

• sunglasses

• water to drink

Be aware of other vehicles and persons while parking on levee road and getting in and out of vehicle.

Do not touch vegetation unless you know that is safe to do so.

Watch where you step - choose the placement of your feet thoughtfully. Do not step where you cannot see the ground, e.g. due to thick vegetation or a break in the ground surface.

No smoking. Absolutely no use of matches or other sources of flame.

After your visit:

If you contact poison oak with your clothing or shoes, handle and clean them very carefully to minimize spread of the plant oils.

If you walk through wild vegetation, check for ticks on your body.
