Fire Crash Rescue Station - Bidding Questions/Response
Comment Number
Date Discipline Spec/ Report Sheet Comment Response Response By On Date
1 Structural The concrete finish on the bond beams is called out in the Concrete Specification section 3.9.B to knock off the fins and plug the tie holes. Is this sufficient or will rub and dress be required?
Exposed surfaces will require rub and dress. Brett Rowan, PE 7/10/2018
2 Structural S-503 The detail for the top of the bond beams in Detail 7 on drawing S-503 indicates a bond beam ( which is constructed prior to setting steel) which has a steel support welded directly to it with no tolerance for the height of the steel plate in the bond beam. Is it acceptable to use shims and seal between the weld plate in the bond beam and the steel tube showing in the detail. There is a similar question on the bond beams, and plates on the other details on sheet S-503.
The steel plate is an embed plate at the top of the cast in place concrete beam. ACI tolerances would not require a shim plate. If construction is in excess of tolerances, submit an RFI.
Brett Rowan, PE 7/10/2018
3 AT/FP A-602 On sheet A-602 in the General Notes, it states that the aluminum window and door framing is to comply with AF/TP UFC 4-010-01. Specification Section 08 41 13 GLAZING, in paragraph 1.3 SUMMARY, A.1. states that “All exterior window and door glazing shall comply with UFC Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection Design Guidelines.” Drawing CS 102, the AT/FP sheet indicates an AF/TP setback distance of 33 feet. Specification section 08 41 13 ALUMINUM-FRAMED ENTRANCES AND STOREFRONTS in paragraph 1.3.G Florida Product Approval calls identifies the storefront to be used as “1. Design Basis: Kawneer, Florida Product Approval #15404.3” This product is the Kawneer IR 501T product which satisfies the State of Florida impact rating and test requirement related to wind driven objects. Drawing CS-102 indicates a 33 foot AFTP Setback blast distance.
The Kawneer IR 501T product is not tested to meet the blast loadings required by UFC 4.010.01 at a 33 AFTP setback.
a. What is a storefront product that meets the design requirements for 33 foot AFTP Setback design and test?
b. What is the anchorage and/or steel reinforcing required for the window framing and door opening framing? The storefront details on sheet A-604 do not show any anchorage. W
c. Which are the exterior doors that open into spaces classified as occupied spaces which are required to meet the 33 foot Setback blast design.
33 ft Standoff distance is not the correct DBT distance. Please refer to Addendum #1 dated July 12, 2018, incorporated by solicitation amendment 0001, Window System Design Load Compliance & Analysis with Revision date of 6/15/17 located in the Glazing specification. The Window Design Load Analysis provides all of the requirements, guidance & direction to meet UFC 4-010-01 Standard 10.
The summary of fully reflected & incident loads with the applicable standoff distance is listed in the analysis tables on page 4. Please follow all requirements, guidances and directions as noted in the Window Design Load Compliance & Analysis.
William J. Moore, PSP AT/FP (SME)
7/10/2018
4 AT/FP 08 41 13 Are hollow metal exterior doors # 101C, 107, 110, 127F and 134 required to comply with the blast design for the 33 foot ADTP Setback? Is the glass in these doors required to meet the design loading required by the 33 foot AFTP Setback?
As noted in Section 08 41 13 GLAZING?
Please see note #3 above and references. William J. Moore, PSP AT/FP (SME)
7/10/2018
5 AT/FP Will a complete dynamic design analysis be required should it be confirmed that the Kawneer IR 501T system fails to satisfy the blast resistant requirements of the 33 foot AFTP Setback design loading?
Please see note #3 above and references. William J. Moore, PSP AT/FP (SME)
7/10/2018
6 AT/FP CS102 What is the Charge Weight for the design of the storefront with the 33 foot AFTP Setback requirement on sheet CS-102?
The 33 foot distances is not the DBT standoff distances for this project.
Please refer to the Window Design Load Compliance Analysis located in the Glazing Spec. for all information

Rolling steel doors can achieve this. The feedback we are getting is that there is no sectional door of this construction type that will meet the wind loads, regardless of manufacturer, due to the size. Please advise.
Sectional door manufacturer must provide calculations showing that door meets IBC wind load requirements for door size indicated in construction documents.

38 7/11/2018 A-601 Some of the rooms listed on the finish schedule (A-601) do not correlate with the rooms listed on the floor plan (A-101). For example, Dorm Room (117) appears on the finish schedule and floor plan; however, the finish schedule also lists another room (Telecom – 117) with entirely different finishes. There also is not a Men’s restroom (123) & Women’s restroom (125) shown on the floor plan. Please clarify.
On Sheet A-601 ROOM FINISH SCHEDULE delete 117 Telecom,123 MEN, and 125 WOMEN.

39 7/11/2018 A-601 Remark #7 on A-601 indicates to provide floor tile PFT-1 at the sink/shower in room 134. Should this be revised so that the sink/shower receives PFT-2 (smaller format tile) instead, in order to achieve a proper slope to the drain?
Note #7 should read "Provide Floor Tile PFT-2 and porcelain tile base PTB-1 at floor sink/shower in Room 134."

44 7/11/2018 FX-001 On drawing FX001, Note 12 states to provide a MIC mitigation chemical injection system for the fire sprinkler system. The fire sprinkler contractor asking the question has performed multiple projects at FANG and has no knowledge of a concern for MIC in the water supply. Will this be a requirement as the cost for this is substantial? It has been suggested that it would be a more affective design to be installed at the fire pump house suppling the entire underground loop rather than at one building.
Note 12 is incorrect and should be deleted from the drawing. A MIC mitigation chemical injection system is not required.

45 7/11/2018 21 13 13 Spec. Section 21 13 13 Wet-Pipe Sprinkler System, paragraph 1.4 a Requires the use of high pressure piping system components listed for 250-psi minimum working pressure. Are pressures maintained above 175 psi as this has not been a requirement with previous projects?
Water flow testing conducted by Jacobs on 11/13/2015 revealed the static pressure to be 190 psi. Due to this pressure reading, the piping is requried to be listed to 250 psi minimum. If information can be provided to demonstrate the static pressures are maintained below 175 psi, then standard components may be used. However, this deviation must be approved by FLANG.

48 7/16/2018 C-002, CL1 Reference drawing C-002 Phasing plan note #2 and drawing CL-101. Please clarify. It appears the new building is right on the existing fence line which will have to be removed to construct the new building. There is no temporary fence indicated on any plans which would leave open access to the taxiway during construction of the building. Do we need to provide a temporary security fence, where can it be located and to what standard does it need to be constructed ?
Building is intentionally located on the existing fence line. Contractor is to remove only the portion of the existing fence requried to construct the building and reinstall fencing to within 6" of building when building construction is complete. At contractor's option, remove additional fence and install temporary fencing of same security level during construction and reinstall existing permanent fencing to within 6" of the building upon completion of construction. The existing fencing is the secure perimeter of the the Airport and must remain in some manner during the entire construction process.
