3.2.2 Troubleshooting Flow There are four steps in troubleshooting that the student must go by (TM 9-2350-388-13&P; how to do troubleshooting): Identify the Symptom, Find the
Procedure, Isolate the Fault, and Verify the Repair. The ED/TT shall support the following
Troubleshooting flow block diagram.
Figure 3.2.2
3.2.3 Built in Test Process When running Built in Test (BIT), students will utilize TM 9-
2350-388-23-1-1 work package 006. This work package initializes BIT from the Improved
Driver’s Integrated Display (IDID). Depending on the type of fault identified by BIT, Automatic
Fault Isolation Test (AUTO FIT) or Interactive Fault Isolation Test (INTER FIT) can be performed. If the option for INTER FIT or AUTO FIT is illuminated the student has the choice

A system/subsystem with “N/A” next to it indicated that there are dependencies associated with it which prohibit troubleshooting until the higher priority failure is repaired. If a faulty LRU is indicated then the student is required to locate the fault message in WP008 and perform the corrective action. The ED/TT shall support the test to be run for each specific Tank system identified in the following Table.

3.2.4 Symptom Discernment and Manual Troubleshooting The ED/TT shall support the training of Symptom Discernment and Manual Troubleshooting techniques. If no
LRU is identified or Test Procedure (TP) number identified when running Built-in Test (BIT), the students will utilize the Symptom Discernment Procedure Index TM 9-2350-388-13&P work package 009. This work package contains system/subsystem indexes which identify the correct symptom discernment procedure for troubleshooting a malfunction in most of the hull systems.
Some system /subsystems do not require a discernment procedure and send you directly to the
Hull System Manual Troubleshooting Procedure (MTP) System Index in WP 0020. However, in most cases symptom discernment will be utilized to identify the proper test procedure prior to utilizing manual troubleshooting procedures.
3.2.5 M1A2 SEP v2 Engine Lessons The ED/TT shall include Lessons which train troubleshoot malfunctions of the Hull Power Distribution System (HPDS), Engine Starting
System (ESS), Electrical Charging System (ECS), Fuel Supply System (FS), Pulse Jet System
(PJS) or Transmission System (XMSN). These lessons shall enable students to select the proper troubleshooting process to isolate the faulty component, implement corrective action and verify the repair using the IETM. The ED/TT shall be capable of categorizing each lesson as either a
Practical Lesson or an Examination Lesson for each class. This categorization shall be established at the origination of the Class. Each lesson duration shall be no longer than 50 minutes in length as conducted by an experienced tank maintainer. The average duration of the lessons in each category shall be between 35 and 45 minutes. Scripts shall be developed for each delivered lessons to allow the instructor to monitor the student’s completion of the steps in the diagnostic process. The scripts shall only be available at the instructor station and hand held device and allow the instructor to follow the progress of the lesson. It shall be a summary of the correct path in the TMs the student should take in successfully troubleshooting the malfunction.
It shall show the expected results of each test step. The contractor shall evaluate the feasibility of successfully developing each lesson within the capabilities of the ED/TT. The contractor shall report any issues with the identified lessons. The contractor shall review the issues with the government representatives to develop work arounds or define any replacement lessons, as necessary and deliver 80 ED/TT lessons. The ED/TT hardware and software design shall support the trainer functionality (normal behaviors and faulted behaviors) required for each delivered lesson. The lessons shall be refined during SME reviews and corresponding hardware design, software behaviors and diagnostic procedures identified and developed and subsequently integrated into the trainer baseline.
3.2.5.1 Practical Lessons Category The ED/TT Practical lessons shall be available from the
Instructor Login. The Practical Lessons shall allow the student to verify the fault by observing the abnormal behavior of the ED/TT caused by the fault. The ED/TT shall be designed to allow the student to utilize diagnostic techniques from the IETM to find the proper troubleshooting procedure to isolate the faulty component. The Practical Lessons shall be available and initiated by both instructor login and Test Administrator Login. They shall be utilized in the normal conduct of the course.
