About this file
This is a product data sheet for Poly-Crete Colorfast, a 100% solids three-component cementitious aliphatic urethane topcoat manufactured by Sherwin-Williams, prepared in conjunction with the City of West Sacramento's Fire Station 43 Apparatus Bay Resinous Flooring project. The product can be applied as a topcoat for various Poly-Crete systems (HF, MD, WR) or as a grout coat for Poly-Crete MDB and SLB systems. Poly-Crete Colorfast is designed to cure rapidly, offering aesthetic benefits with UV-stable color, low odor, and USDA/FDA/OSHA compliance. Available in seven colors (Blue, Charcoal, Chestnut, Dark Grey, Green, Grey, and Red), the product delivers a semi-gloss finish with recommended spreading rates of 50 to 120 square feet per kit depending on substrate type. At 70°F, the material exhibits a 10-minute pot life, 15-minute working time, and 12-hour cure time to foot traffic, with extended cure schedules required at lower temperatures (24 hours at 60°F, 44 hours at 50°F).
Application of Poly-Crete Colorfast requires specific equipment including squeegees, rollers, and a high-speed drill with dispersion blade, following a strict three-component mixing sequence of resin, aggregate, and hardener. Critical application limitations include maintaining relative humidity below 85%, temperature range of 60°F to 85°F, and application thickness between 10 to 30 mils, with special provisions requiring a Poly-Crete TF Plus grout coat for Blue and Green color variants. The product demonstrates strong performance characteristics including 7,800 psi compressive strength, 4,200 psi tensile strength, and Shore D hardness of 65, with good stain resistance to food processing chemicals and mildew resistance. Pre-measured kits contain pigmented resin, hardener, and aggregate with a shelf life of 12 months for resin and hardener and 6 months for aggregate in unopened containers.

P D POLY-CRETE COLORFAST is a 100% solids three component cementitious aliphatic urethane topcoat. Poly-Crete Colorfast can be used as a topcoat for Poly-Crete HF, Poly-Crete MD, Poly-Crete WR and as a grout coat for Poly-Crete MDB and SLB systems.
Poly-Crete Colorfast preserves the performance and durability of cementitious urethane systems, while off ering an aesthetic look that is UV stable. Poly-Crete Colorfast is designed to be fast curing and off er better stain resistance to food processing chemicals compared with traditional cementitious urethane systems.
BENEFITS
• Color Stable
• Low Odor
• Meets USDA/FDA/OSHA Standards
• Mildew Resistant - Extends useful life of article by controlling deterioration caused by mildew
• Fast Dry Time
• Good Stain Resistance to Food Processing Chemicals
LIMITATIONS
It is not recommended to apply Poly-Crete Colorfast thinner than 10 mils or thicker than 30 mils. Do not apply Poly-Crete Colorfast if RH >85%. Poly-Crete Colorfast is best suited for application in temperatures between 60ºF and 85ºF. Poly-Crete Colorfast produces a semi-gloss fi nish. Use of Poly-Crete Colorfast colors Blue or Green will require a grout coat of Poly-Crete TF Plus prior to application to ensure consistent color. Please refer to the Poly- Crete Colorfast Application Instructions for a complete list of limitations.

A ( ' ) F. Using a High Speed Drill with a 4-inch Dispersion blade, thor-oughly mix resin and aggregate for 45 seconds.
G. Add hardener: Scrape the sides of the hardener container with paint stick and wipe excessive material from the stick on rim of hardener bucket. Thoroughly mix resin, aggregate, and hardener for 45 seconds.
H. Make sure there are no clumps in the mixed materials.
I. Pour the entire mixed material onto the fl oor in 4-inch ribbon.
NOTE: Do NOT allow poured material to sit for more than one minute to avoid settling of the aggregate.
J. Wet out roller in puddle area prior to using.
1. Topcoat application for Poly-Crete SLB and Poly-Crete MDB broadcast systems:
i. Using a 12-inch fl at window squeegee spread materials uniformly east to west, moving the squeegee in a continuous semi-circular motion. Be sure to press down slightly on the squeegee to assure material is nestled between the quartz.
ii. Back roll north to south to level the material.
iii. Cross roll east to west to eliminate roller lines overlapping 4-inches in between each cross roll. Cross roll should be completed within 10 minutes of mixing.
iv. 2nd batch – follow steps i. through iii.
a) Pour the 4-inch ribbons 2-inches into the wet-edge.
b) Squeegee east to west as before.
c) Overlap 4-inches into prior batch when back rolling.
2. Topcoat application for Poly-Crete HF and Poly-Crete MD smooth and semi-smooth surfaces:
i. Use a 1/8-inch notch squeegee east to west and spread the materials uniformly. When moving east to west move squeegee in a continuous semi-circular motion.
ii. Back roll north to south to level the material. Be sure to press down to disperse the aggregate evenly.
iii. Cross roll east to west to eliminate any roller lines overlapping 4-inches in between each cross roll. Cross roll should be completed within 10 minutes of mixing.
iv. 2nd batch – Follow steps as outlined in section 2. i-iii.
K. Non-Skid: Non-Skid grit can be broadcast at the rate of 1 lb.
per 100 Sq Ft if so desired and then cross rolled into coating.
L. Allow material to dry: (refer to Cure Time chart)

CLEANING GUIDELINES
1. Use a slow evaporating solvent like Xylene or Toluene.
2. Immediately clean equipment after use.

APPLICATION METHOD
Poly-Crete Colorfast is applied with 1/8” notch or 12” fl at window squeegee followed by a back roll using an 18” long 3/8” nap roller in accordance with the spread rate. Poly-Crete Colorfast system comes in pre-measured kits consisting of pigmented resin, hardener, and aggregate. When applying Poly-Crete Colorfast relative humidity should be no greater than 85%.
NOTE: Use of Poly-Crete Colorfast colors Blue and Green require a grout coat of Poly-Crete TF at 45 SF/kit prior to application to ensure consistent color.
NOTE: To protect the fl oor from scratches when moving equipment on a Poly-Crete Colorfast fl oor, the use of temporary fl oor protection such as Ram board (or equivalent) is recommended. If using Masonite or plywood, apply a layer of plastic sheeting such as Visqueen (or equivalent) underneath the wood. Plywood and Masonite can yellow a Poly-Crete Colorfast fl oor if laid on the fl oor in less than 7 days (full Poly-Crete Colorfast cure).
NOTE: For each application of material and before mixing, mark your batches to ensure you achieve your spread rate targets. This is best accomplished by dividing your target spread rate by the width of the area being coated (or your planned wet edge). Example: If your spread rate is 100 square feet and your area is 20 feet wide you would make a mark every 5 feet (100 divided by 20 = 5).

O I Poly-Crete Colorfast is available in premeasured kits in small and large sizes. Each kit consists of pigmented resin, hardener and aggregate. Poly-Crete Colorfast hardener and aggregate must be stored dry. When the aggregate is exposed to water or high moisture, clumping will result and reduce the active powder content.
Exposure of the hardener to water or high moisture will cause carbon dioxide to generate and lead to a build up in pressure. Do not reseal containers that have been contaminated with moisture.
The shelf life is 1 year for both resin and hardener from ship date in the original unopened containers.
